Baked Potatoes
« on: March 21, 2014, 09:27:52 pm »
Are baked potatoes healthy? I usually add butter, cheese, bacon bits and sour cream. I add lots of it. Do you think that everything i add lessens the nutritional value? I kinda think so but i lve it so much. Baked potatoes are my favorite food right about now.

I wouldn't think that the toppings detract from the nutritional value, just that they add many added calories!

Sounds good, but they are high in carbs.

If I had listened to everything the experts said over the last 75 years, I probably would have not lived as long and surely would have not enjoyed it as much.

I don't understand the nutritional value of butter, sour cream, bacon, and cheese...  Baked potatoes are better than fried, but adding dairy/meat products makes it fatty and salty... It might be good for calcium/proteins but other than that I don't see no point for nutrition. But hey, at least its better than take out and fast food

yes baked potatoes are healthy its all of the stuff that you put on them that is unhealthy for your however life is meant to be enjoyed so if you enjoy them that much by all means eat them but you might want to do so in moderation.

Potatoes itself are very nutritional but when adding too much butter and cheese would be too rich

A baked potato can be healthy, but when you add the butter, cheese, bacon, and sour cream then those things detract from the nutrition of the potato. If you aren't looking for healthy alternatives, then by all means, enjoy your potato and toppings. If you are looking for healthier toppings, then maybe try something like salsa. It just depends on if you want.

A loaded baked potato is better than Fast Food french fries any day, even with those other toppings. I think if you are cooking food at home, you're eating in the right direction.  But you wont lose weight or anything eating all those topping.  But if that's not your goal, then there's no issue.

I think overall they aren't healthy since they are just carbs with fatty ingredients but I too love them.

I love baked potatoes with sour cream. Potato is high in carbs, but when you ad different things to it its a heart attack waiting to happen.

I don't think the potato itself is the fattening part .. it is what we put on the potato that adds calories .. Oh well,  guess I will have to live with a few extra calories cuz I love lots of butter on mine.
