5K in 4 weeks!
« on: March 15, 2014, 05:05:42 pm »
I have a 5K run/walk in 4 weeks and I started training, then I frigged up my good foot by training with horrible sneakers! Haven't worked out in a week because I've been babying my foot. It feels a little better but shoes are everything and if you don't have the right ones they can do you some harm people!! Going to get new kicks tomorrow!!! Hope I will survive this run! lol :)

I hope you are able to make that run and may God be with you and bless you in all your efforts.  I don't think I could do a 5k.  I have been out of shape so it would be difficult.

Shoes really do make a difference doing all types of physical activity

I think a 5k that you have an option of walking is attainable for most people. In the warmer months, I walk a 5k twice a week with a group ranging from kids to woman in her 70s to just starting exercise to people who run on a daily basis

I would like to do something like this.  There was a local church done a 5k a year or so ago.  Last summer I think.  But you had to PAY THEM to participate.  *sigh*  I won't be participating in a 5 mile run that I have to pay them to let me be in it.

A 5k is only 3.2 miles but you have to pay to participate in most races because the proceeds tend to go to charity or some other organization

Oh.  Okay.  Thanks for that info.  I did not know that. The 3.2 miles nor why they charged. lol

My SIL and Niece (she was 7 or 8) done one either last year or the year before.

Just go at your pace.  You can do it no problem.  Make sure you get some walking in your new kicks before the race.  New shoes can be great and hard on your feet.

Take care of your foot.  Equipment makes a big difference in any sport.  You have to make sure you have the right stuff of you see what can happen.    Anyway, good luck in your race, and take care of your foot so it will not turn into a continuing problem.

That's awesome! :) That you're doing a 5K, not that you hurt your foot, lol. I hope it's healing well and that you'll be back to training in no time. I never understood the importance of the right pair of sneakers when exercising until I was really into doing cardio a few years ago and always had sore heels as a result! I was flipping through a Title Nine catalog we got in the mail recently and they seem to have sneakers for any and all kinds of work outs. Only downside if they're kind of pricey. Good luck on your run! :)

Three weeks to go!  Hope your foot is doing better!  Hope your new kicks have you, running faster, clearing buildings in a single leap, and soaring to new heights! I usually skip the 2nd half of the month and start to kill off my posts in the first week of every new month so I am a little late in my good tidings!  Shoes are so key-especially if your feet aren't used to running.  I have been told to change out my running shoes every five hundred miles or six months-whichever comes first.  It can get expensive if you are training for a marathon. My feet were tough enough when I started doing ultra-marathons so I stuck to the 6 month rule.

Good luck! I agree, shoes make all the difference in the world. If your feet aren't comfortable, you just can't do it! Plus as you so sadly pointed out, it can also hurt you.  :'(
