If it is an oil change, or tune up or even a dead battery I do it myself. As far as brakes if my hubby doesn't do it I take it to a mechanic because that is one thing I won't do. We very seldom use a mechanic it is less money to do it yourself especially if you know what you are doing. but if you don't see a mechanic.

My vehicle goes to the mechanics shop.  Even for oil changes.

My dad taught me how to change my oil so I did it myself for many years, but now the garage floor is too hard.

Whatever I can do by myself - I do - everything else - to the mechanic!   :)

Mechanic!  My husband is very mechanically dysfunctional and I don't even know how to open the hood!
Have a wonderful day!

I work on my own vehicle when I can, but for really big repairs I take it to a mechanic.

Back when most cars on the road had carburetors, I used to do most of the work on my vehicles, including the oil changes. Now that cars are computerized and oil changes are reasonably priced, I take my vehicle in for repairs and oil changes.

It depends on how bad the repair is. if anything a mechanic is my last resort.

My hubby's a mechanic! Thank God!! He does oil changes and small things until my warranty expires then he will do the work on my truck. He gets discounted parts, so that is always a PLUS!  ;D

The only service I do in this car by myself is wash it or check the wiper fluid. Everything else is done by the mechanic.

I can do the basic things you mentioned and a few more things you didn't mention.  I work with a guy that does car jobs on the side and he helps me and I am trying to learn from him all the time.
