There are some great ideas here.  I have come to this subject several times, and  find something new each time.     And anything I save helps me be able to pay down on essentials like water and power, gas, gasoline.

One way to significantly reduce expense is with the electric bill.  I turn off the breaker for my electric hot water heater when away from home all day.  It is surprising how long the water stays hot and does not take that long to heat to full temperature when back home.  Always turn off lights when leaving a room.  As your incandescent light bulbs burn out, replace them with energy-efficient LED bulbs.  Use lower wattage bulbs in coat closets or other areas where bright light is not a priority.  Watch your thermostat temperature if you have electric heating and/or cooling-- one degree can make a lot of difference in the cost.

Get a plan and stick to it - first get rid of cable tv - cuz you can watch plenty free online; then, get rid of your phone and get a magicjack!  cannot beat the price for this one; finally, cut your cell phone cord!  yep, really - get a tablet instead and do things free or at a better cost...  that should be a good start, I did it and have saved many $$$$!!!  So, you can too!

We have been trying to cut our electric bill down we went from $348 in February which is for January to $166 in march which is actually for February.  How We did this is no heat for rooms that have no water pipes and my husband and I slept in the same room so we only need to heat kitchen, bathroom and one bedroom.  We also put plastic thick plastic on all our windows to keep the heat in.  In the summer the plastic goes back up in the summer to keep the cool air in.  Since My husbands credit is better than mine we make sure all his bills are paid first than I pay one of mine and gradually I will get them paid off as long as they are willing to work with me I'm going to start with the one that I owe the least amount to.

look into electric magnetic generator (though you have to build one from the gound up) a small one someone built and had a certified electrician hook it up to the main & it cut 30% off the bill.

I just switched my table company and lowered my phone plan (most of my items are still unlimited) and just made a monthly food budget and I try to make daily lunches instead of having to buy lunch.

What I do is always make a list when I go to the store, that way I don't stop by every isle and get unnecessary things. I don't carry cash because this temps me to stop by fast food restaurants and get things I don't need. I turn off lights when no one is in the room and I look for ways to cut back on bills. Budgets are really good, but sometimes hard to stick to.

Make your own items instead of buying them. Make your own laundry detergent and Goo-Gone, for starters Glade, Windex, and Soft Scrub. In both cases, it’s way cheaper than buying the commercial version. Hunt around for recipes – it’s amazing how many things you can make at home in just a few minutes that saves a ton of money compared to the commercial version. :cat:

I find that if I write down everything that I am spending money on I end up spending less money.

Unplugging electric items not in use instead of just turning them off.
Taking shorter showers and don't just stand there under the water. Lather rinse or get out  :P
DIY!
Think about what meals you'll likely eat before you go grocery shopping. It will reduce how much gets thrown out.
Freeze things before they go bad.
