this is a good forum to look at with all these good ideas of saving money,i have plans to save a lot this summer by giving up cable,bike riding,hanging clothes outside makes them smell better a lot of cooking out doors,and more outdoor activity's.

Drive smarter
Take off slowly from a full stop.
Avoid idling.
Change those spark plugs often.
(i did said moped before) Buy a motorcycle or scooter.
Fill the tank full and not $10- $20 here & there.
Wait until you have a quarter tank to fill up on gas.
Avoid quick acceleration and hard braking.
Slow down the air resistance goes up as the square of velocity but maintain a steady speed.

I buy electronics used or refurbished like my phone that I paid $50 for when the company was selling it for $150.
I shop online and I use a lot of cash back websites and mostly buy items when they are on sale.

I pay off expenses and then never charge anything else if using a CC.  This would go for anything.  I look at it this way, if you don't make a bill you have less to worry about at the end of the month.

I did an output analysis of my spending and eating out was the only expense I was disappointed by. I've been eating out much less since I did the analysis a few months ago and your tip of taking your own food definitely works. I'll check out that soap melting video, I wanted a dispenser that does it for me but I've had no luck finding one.
