I go to the 99 cent store or the dollar store on grocery shopping day, you will find a lot of things there that you don't have to pay full price for at the store.  Fruits and vegetables you will have to eat within 2 or 3 days...but it is the same brands I get at Whole Foods and Sprouts.

The biggest step in cutting down on or getting rid of expenses is to get as far away from those credit cards as you possibly can.

one good way to eliminate expenses is not to have that expense. if you can not do that then i would start on eliminating luxuries before your expenses.

Install a Fill Cycle Diverter
Save another 1/2 gallon per flush by installing a fill cycle diverter in each of your toilets. This simple add-on costs less than a dollar, and is designed to divert overflow water back to the tank during the fill cycle. :cat:

The best way to save on your electricity is to "unplug" your water heater every night, or you can install a cheap timer to turn it on and off. My cousin is a nuclear physicist, and he has a video on You Tube where he says to do just that. Gulf Power has a one of a kind program where they install Energy Select in your home for free and you control your own energy with their thermostat or through the Internet. You also have three tiers of costs and you can choose to use the most energy during the least expensive times of day.

Don't buy impulse items when shopping, brown bag to work, take public transportation when you can. Don't use your credit cards. I leave them alone. Pay them off asap.  I have to drive 80 miles to take dad to the doctor so do all of my shopping there instead of here where I live and always save a bundle.

I've never taken this in to account, to be honest.  But this seems like a great idea for the most part.  That said, I always keep an eye out for great deals at ANY of the grocery stores.  Safeway has the great deals on the weekends, as does Shoppers Drug Mart.  Save-on-Foods sometimes has superb deals on chicken *bleep*, although there regular prices on chicken (approximately 1kg for $12.00) is okay I guess, when compared other places (see: Real Canadian SuperStore, Safeway, Buy-low-Foods, NoFrills, etc.)

I have been staying home.   Not going out and spending any extra, puts a tight reign on my budget.
