I think one of the reasons why you see so many scams online is that most of these sites come from foreign countries that don't have the protections that the US affords, or else since the victim of fraud is foreign, the authorities in that country don't have the jurisdiction to prosecute.

When doing my investigations on a site, I first see where they are located... If they are US based, then it's less likely that they are a true scam. Although it still doesn't mean that the company's business plan is faulty and may mean that the company will go out of business before you recoup anything that you may have "invested" with them...

Sometimes people will claim that a site is a scam even though they are legit... They may just not pay as much as people expect. For example, some survey sites will show that you could get $5 for each survey you complete, and each survey averages about 15 minutes to complete so mathematically you'd be getting $20/hour. However unless you've actually tried these survey sites, you may not realize that you only get paid for the surveys that you qualify for and complete. And you may spend a good hour just trying to find a survey that you'd qualify for, so your actual earning potential may be closer to only $5/ hour or less, in which case you'd get more money just working at a minimum-waged job.

There are a lot of scams on the internet, and also phone scams, and even snail mail scams. But that's just a risk we take. You can't just hide in a bubble; you have to be smart and use your head, and minimize the risks.

Just remember the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true than it is not.  Do not fall for everything just to make a couple of bucks.

They're going to always be those people who are looking for a way to cheat the system so they can get a free ride at other people's expense.

I don't worry about the scams, however, I do try to use my debit card less and use either a prepaid card or credit cards (or cash) when I purchase something.

We've just got to be smarter consumers (at least smarter than the crooks) when comes to issues like this.  :D

I think you have to be extra careful when on the net; especially if you are buying something from someone you don't know or trust.  There are way too many thieves out there today!!!!

I get so many scam emails - and also have to be very careful of those that want you to click on a link to your bank or something similar to "update" your account - those are viruses, or even worse, trying to steal account or identity info!

:bunny: Gone to heck in a handbasket lol is what my Granny would say.  It does seem like there is no ethics in this world anymore.  Seems like most people are out for themselves and could care less about anyone else even if the people they are stealing from or taking advantage of are worse off than them.  Too bad but one day I believe we all have to pay for how we live and treat others.

I too wish that these scams didn't exist but that is our world right now. I had my paypal hijacked an got  a call in the middle of the night from china asking to confirm a purchase which I didn't make so they reversed it immediately and I wasn't out anything and changed my password.

Due to the cause of so many scams and con artist out there I have become jaded in regards to trusting people. This doesn't make me impervious to potential scams, but I am a bit more guarded.

I agree! I hope many people don't fall for them.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

Scamming on the Net has been going on for years, and it still continues.  The scammers know that people are looking for a way to make some extra money or just money period, so they sell the buyers a bunch of lies about how easy it is to make money and the only one making money is the seller because they are charging you to join their program.

Always be cautious. If it's too good to be true, don't trust it.
