The customer support these days *facepalm*... You don't need a recovery disk or Best Buy's geek squad to fix a browser... I don't know how badly damaged (software-wise) you computer is, but you don't need a recovery disk from Dell... A recovery disk is mainly used to fix corrupted OS files, not for a simple browser program... You must be joking that Geek squad support cost $200 for a internet browser fix because that is BEYOND overpriced ($200 overpriced).. They must have some other reason why it would be a $200 fix, like multiple corrupted/broken hard drives, corrupted files, and virus ridden. It can't be only one issue, especially since its an easy fix
Anywho, if I were you... I suggest:
1.) Scan your computer for viruses using a Antivirus or Antimalware program
2.) Go to start menu and under "search programs and files" type cmd. Find cmd but don't left click it, instead right click it. Click on "Run as admin" and click yes when a user account control pops out. Then you type "sfc /scannow" (exclude the "") and wait awhile (usually it takes 5-10 min for it to be done). *Only for windows OS
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm3.) Since I assume you have only one browser you can't access the internet without Internet explorer. So find a friend willing to let you use their internet for awhile and find/download a portable internet browser (Internet explorer, firefox, or google chrome) onto your flash drive. The use you put the flash drive on your computer and run the portable version of the internet browser to download/repair your Internet explorer browser.
Other than tht it could just be tht your IE shortcut got deleted... Under "search programs and files" type Internet Explorer and it should be around. Right click it and click on copy... Then on your screen just paste it back to your interface... You will have the shortcut icon back to your interface
******My suggestion is only.... ONLY if this is just a browser issue... If it's other then a browser issue (such as viruses, corrupt files, failing hard drives, etc) then I wouldn't be much of a help to you... Also find a more reputable computer repair shop.. Best Geek Squad is way overpriced, if you don't have a plan for them.. But w/e it's convenient to you
