Commercials
« on: January 26, 2014, 09:13:43 am »
Has anybody seen that commercial where the daughter rushes thru the door screaming mom.  It's for MetLife insurance and is where the dad falls off the ladder cleaning the gutters and the daughters are trying to get the mom to get life insurance?  There is the first one where they show the entire commercial and then several cut versions.  The cut versions are so stupid.  They don't even make sense if you hadn't seen the whole thing to start with.

I almost always mute commercials and get up and do something.  The only time I watch them is during the Super Bowl.  I think most commercials are a waste of time, unless you're really in the market for that product.  To me they are an annoyance and I'm so glad I finally got a DVR to tape my shows and fly through the commercials. 8)

I think commercials are becoming more R-rated than ever.  Many of them that are shown even on daytime TV I would not want a child to see.  They cross the line of decency, as far as I am concerned.  Sometimes I wonder how much farther they can go.  I did notice that there are some companies that will listen when people object.  I saw one commercial when it first came out that was changed when the organization One Million Moms let it be known the ad was not acceptable.

From their website:  "1MM was Heard Loud and Clear!
In the original "Quicksilver" Capital One commercial starring Samuel L. Jackson, he blurts out the d-word! Capital One's "Quicksilver" ad was irresponsible and offensive but after our members contacted the company a new commercial has begun airing. Capital One has updated their commercial to leave out the profanity. The revised commercial now says, "Every single day."
This is a HUGE improvement! The commercial is family-friendly now. 1MM appreciates Capital One taking appropriate action to make this correction.
Your voice was heard once again!"

We need to remember that, if enough of us object, we can change things.

It is all a scam. These companies just want to sell you their products.

Competitors have to keep an eye on each other to see how they are advertising and marketing. Once one company does something, there's a good chance that their competitor may try to match or out do them.

Most commercials are boring, except for very few. The Value city furniture ad has some good music.

I remember that.  When I saw it I was like what is the point in having the D word in there?  I am glad they changed it.

I don't think the people who made the ad are the ones that cut it down.  I think it is the tv stations.  This one is just so stupid.  When the mom tells the daughters he fell off the ladder the one daughter says "mom have you and dad ever thought about insurance"?  It just sounds stupid.  Insurance for what?  If you hadn't already seen the whole thing it doesn't make sense.  And the one sounds like she is wanting them to get life insurance so if he falls again and dies they (the kids) can get some money. lol

Some commercials just don't make any sense or they're so unrelated to the product that you'll never remember the product. I just seen the newest one from Dannon yogurt featuring John Stamos and it's a little bit out there (where the John has yogurt on his mouth and lady licks it off and then he drops yogurt on his leg and the lady debates whether or not she wants to lick it...) It's funny and it catches your attention, but a little risque if you ask me for daytime tv. :-[
