What Do You Think of the Way Jesus Tells Us to Become Exalted?
« on: January 23, 2014, 07:12:25 pm »
In Matthew 23, Jesus gives us this piece of advice which seems to be telling us that--to be exalted--take 'the lowest place at the table' (lowest station on the totem-pole? last place in line?) & wait for 'the host' (boss? teacher? owner?) to 'invite you to a higher place' (lift you higher? move you to the front?)

I think I might have interpreted that wrong, applying it to marriage-relationships: being 'the most-unmarriable man I know (besides my father  :D ' & waiting for 'the woman of my dreams' to 'invite me into holy matrimony.'

I think the mistake I made there was that you're not supposed to focus on "how bad you have it," but rather on "the praise-worthy good you give it all up to lift higher."

Is that closer? Or is there another interpretation that'll get me to my Miss Right even quicker ??? :silly:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------That's what a Pharisee might say today. You now have the chance to respond as my mentor Jesus-of-Joseph would, and I pray that you will!

I think this is what Jesus meant.....

23 Then he went on to say to all: “If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself+ and pick up his torture stake* day after day and keep following me.+ 24 For whoever wants to save his life* will lose it, but whoever loses his life* for my sake is the one who will save it.+ 25 Really, what good will it do a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own self or suffers ruin?

That's good for 'being good for God,' but I think I'm talking more about 'being good for society " ... I know, "It doesn't matter how you are with people as long as you're good with God" or whatever; but we ARE with people, which is why Jesus gave us the advice He gave at the link (Matthew 23, ending with the linked verse---12 ... talking about seats at a banquet).

And do WOMEN want HUSBANDS who spend all their time 'disowning themselves & picking up their torture-stakes & following Jesus?'

Everything falls into place if you observe 1st 2 commandments as Jesus pointed out.....if you love your neighbor as yourself you obviously wont have a problem with society.

Now I know that's easier said than done...but again remember we still are all sinners and fall victim to making mistakes. Its after we have sinned if we are sorry for it or make a habit of practicing it.
