Diabetes
« on: January 19, 2014, 06:27:40 pm »
I am aware that Diabetes is becoming more common in our population each year.  I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 10 years ago.  Despite oral medications and trying to watch my diet, it has become harder to control, and I was put on an insulin pen about a month ago.  I'm also scheduled to get a renal scan tomorrow morning because of signs of the beginnings of kidney problems.  I will be going for that early tomorrow morning.  I've read a lot of information about Diabetes, but I'm interested in if anyone here is struggling with Diabetes and how they are coping.  I have to admit I'm a little concerned, also, and I'd appreciate prayers.  Thank you, FC friends.

Marijuana has the power to help treat a number of illnesses, alleviate pain and even stimulate appetite. People who are at risk of developing diabetes can use marijuana to stay slim and cut their risk, according to new information. It also reduces stress, which can help people with any illness.

Maybe you need to do some research on this plant to see if it can help....

Oh my goodness, I so feel for you.  Diabetes is rough.  I am living with a man who has had diabetes for the majority of his life and as a result has one good eye and almost total retinal failure in the other.  Please pay attention to the medicinal regimen and lifestyle care that your doctor advises.  My boyfriend so ignored his doctor for so long he is paying for it now.  Diabetes can be controlled.  I wish you the best and I know that God is watching you, hearing your prayers, prayers raised for you, and will walk through the tests and your stresses with you.

I have type 2 too. i was diagnosed in 07 when I was in hospital and got thrush or lnfection in the chest. if i had let it go, i could have died. also my blodd sugar was way too high like 800 and they kept me there for 3 days to get it down. I had suffered loss of saliva too which at the time i did not know, assming it was just chapped lips. they put me on glipizide and metformin. I stopped that cause it made me too tired. I still feel exhausted every day but i try to avoid sugar and excersise as much as i can to keep sugars down. my advice to people hre is dont give up.

I have had Type 2 since 2000 and now take no medication, so I consider myself lucky.

Thank you, guys, for all your prayers and for your concern.  I had the Renal Doppler test today.  Of course, I probably won't know the results until my appointment next week with the kidney doctor.  I will post an update.  I do believe in the power of prayer.  I have had several illnesses in my lifetime, starting when I was very young, where I was not expected to live.  I attribute my recoveries to prayer.

P.S.  Old buddy, how were you able to get off meds, if you don't mind telling us?

I wish I had an easy solution.  I've been blessed in dodging the diabetes monster so far.  My sister was diagnosed when she was 9... she's been on shots ever since and now around 50 she's using a pod implant and it has really made managing her insulin levels easier.  I know several diabetics but most have type 1.  So in regards to type two... I would read a couple of books to educate yourself.  Take what some of these non-traditional less broadcasted authors and doctors serious and apply what they have to say.  I've seen many people with type 2 and with the proper diet and exercise they are able to stay off meds.  Try any readings by Dr. Joel Fuhrman - he's magnificent... Wheat Belly is a mind opener and Dr. Peter D'Adamou (Not sure on the spelling there) correlates out blood type to the region in which we originate... in turn what our bodies are designed for.

This week I got the results of the Renal Doppler test.  My kidney on my right side is normal sized but the one on the left side is significantly smaller.  As a matter of fact, they had trouble even finding it.  That, in turn, causes the blood flow through the kidney to be diminished.  They can either treat it by inserting a stint or trying to lower my blood pressure.  We are going for lowering the BP first. My youngest sister, it so happens, had the same diagnosis two years ago and had the surgery.  Her doctor told her it was probably genetic.  So, the kidney problem is probably not related to the Diabetes.  I guess I will have to wait and see.

It's hard dealing with diabetes but it can be controlled by eating healthy and lots of exercise.  I have a family member who is living with this disease  for many years and is doing very well.

It is hard to wrap your head around all the changes, But with time and education it does get a lot easier!!! Carb counting will become second nature along with adjusting insulin.
