I do not think Russia has been peaceful or ever will be.

Me either.  I had never really known of it being a peaceful country.

They are talking about that on the news now.  I have a bad feeling about it.  They have already had some issues and they have had terrorist threats toward groups of people and athletes.  Not sure what countries.  I don't think they have said.  They just talked to a woman from the US.  She is headed to Russia and said she isn't really concerned.

Always scary when our countrymen put themselves in danger.
Not because of what they do but because of what they represent.

The Olympics should be interesting this year.  I hope nothing happens.

I agree... Like the delegation of former Olympians that are openly gay that the President is sending to Sochi as a protest over Russia's anti-gay laws. I watched the Colbert Report when he interviewed Billie Jean King; she seemed excited about it, but it would be extremely terrible if something happened to her just for the mere fact that she represents an openly lesbian woman, even were she not to do anything to further homosexuality acceptance in Russia.

I don't think the president is sending gay people over there to protest their anti-gay laws.  The president doesn't have any say in which athletic folks are chosen to go.  And it is NONE of our business what gay laws another country has.  NONE.  And we have no right to go to another country and protest them.  Or send gay people to that country to protest.  And if a gay person chose to do that then they deserve whatever happens to them.  As far as someone doing something for them simply for being gay then that's wrong. BUT when we go to another country we have to abide by their laws.  Only in America can you come here illegally and do whatever you want and get away with it.  When people go to Russia they are expected to obey the laws of that country.  If they have laws prohibiting being openly gay then you know that before you go over there.  So basically, keep your sex life to yourself.  I am not sure why who you have sex with would ever come up anyway.
