I have had DirecTV for the past 2 years.  Since being new to this, at the time my hubby decided he wanted to watch something different, we tried to get Dish, but was told we would have to fork over $287 before even being considered.  We even tried Comcast (now Xfinity) and was presented with a problem because my brother in-law has an account with Comcast although he doesn't live in the house with us but uses our address.  I had to fork over $19 to DirecTV and we ordered the Family package, which consisted of 50 channels.  My hubby then decided he wanted the Western channel and I had to order it (it is in my name but he pays the bill).  He then wanted the Sports channel, which we were able to try for 30 days and he got mad because he is a football enthusiast and he could not see the games.  Our bill for the first year was $64.19 and was reduced to $53.91.   :rainbow:

As much as the streaming services appeal to me, I still have cable. I just signed up for a 2-year contract for directv. I think I'll just wait until 2015 if I'm going to cut everything.

I've got a $60 antennae on my roof and pay nothing for my TV.  I get all five major networks, four PBS channels, both shopping channels, THIS (a movie channel), three retro program channels, several Spanish channels, several religious channels and a Spike type channel.  Needless to say I can't watch all that, nor do I want to, but it's all FREE.  8)

I do choose to keep a landline with caller ID, which on it's own isn't bad, but my DSL is attached and that costs more than I'd like.   I live in a small town with limited options.  The next town has free wi-fi, if you live near enough to city hall.  I don't believe we've got the money to do that here yet.  :-\

We have RCN and it just went up to 94 dollars. it's frustrating though because half the time we don't get the channels  :BangHead:

I have seen these advertised but I thought you got a couple of channels.  If it is like you described, this is definitely something I would be interested in.

I've purchased a Roku box for one of my analog tv, it picks up my time warner cable, HBO GO, plus our Netflix & Hulu subscriptions on it.  PLUS, a couple free movie apps

I haven't used the cable box for the past month.  Good bye one cable box, that will be $11 a month saved on cable charges.    Streaming is the way to go, just got to get used to the system.

I've been thinking about dropping my cable TV service and keep procrastinating but, after reading your post and how satisfied you have been, I am ready to take the plunge!!!  Wish me luck!!!

Thank you.  I have exbox live.  Pay for netflix and hulu.  I have been looking for an antenna that would work.  I had bought a tv that had one and the converter box built in but I still can't get reception.

Nope, I do not have Cable TV any more, I used to for a while but a few years ago I made the switch over to Direct TV and I never looked back

Nope, don't have cable. I have a satellite connection, and honestly it's really not that great. It's getting more and more ridiculous what companies are charging and how little you get in return. We've already lowered the number of channels we get a couple times because the price is just stupid. But each of us watch different networks and so there are quite a few that are kinda like must-have's so we've still got service. Might look into some alternatives though.

The next best thing to making money, is saving money and my cable tv with Internet was going through the roof! My monthly bill was like $170 and I finally had enough. I was talking to my son about it and he said he dropped cable and got one of the new Winguard flat panel HDTV antennas and got tons of channels to watch with no monthly payment. The antenna was only $29 one time!!!

Well we live in a hilly subdivision and when we moved here 40 years ago, we tried a normal TV antenna and only got one or two channels with so much snow you couldn't stand to watch it, so I didn't think it would work. To make a long story short, he brought his over, hooked it up in a few minutes and my jaw hit the floor. It got a better picture on the Network channels than the cable did.

So I am headed to Costco tomorrow to pick up a couple of them, so I can quit the cable tv vice. Then I ordered a competitive Internet service for $29 a month instead of $70 I have been paying, not to mention if I drop the cable tv and kept the same Internet service it would increase.

I should save about $130 a month after paying for the antennas and spending $8 a month for Netflix (which I already do anyway) and end up with all the entertainment I need.

My wife is on a trip, so last night I was surfing my favorite traffic exchange and watching Grey's Anatomy on my 32" Monitor.
I have direct T.V. and I love it.  :male:  :peace:  :star:

god i miss cable but we havent had it for almost seven years.  we have rabbit ears and netflix but here recently netflix has become really crappy they never put new things on and if they do its a bunch of b movie crap that i wouldnt want to watch anyway.  thinking about going back to cable for 19.95 a month for two years and ditching my netflix so then my bill would only be 10 bucks over what i am already paying it would be nice to finally have something to watch other then just 5 channels .  especially since i stay home all day with my kids.  i can only take watching the same cartoon so much before i will go insane.
