Weather Channel
« on: January 14, 2014, 07:58:49 pm »
It looks like direct TV got rid of the weather channel and replaced it with Weather Nation. I had gotten tired of the weather channel because all they were showing was reality shows and not the weather although the two guys on Weather nation this morning looked like they were doing the weather cast from their basement.

I will have to check this out.  I heard about the change but I have not watched this station since the change took place.  :peace:

I've got *bleep* Cable/Internet/Telephone ("YEHHHHSSSS---THE BUNDLE .... THE BUNNNNNNNNNNDLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLE:angel12:")

And I get my weather from weather.com (usually checking the hourly in my ZIP code ... though they DO 'bog down' the page with advertisements, picture-links etc., and my 5-10 year old computer has a hard time slogging through it all just to get 'the list of temperatures, humidities, wind speeds & rain-chances').

I watch the weather channel now and then but haven't lately. I'll have to see what weather nation is like. Thanks for the heads up.

You just peeked my curiosity, so I searched and found MSN TV News (which is STILL loading, showing that they stuff their pages with SPAM! ... topped with a tiny bit of news):
Quote from: MSNtvNews link=url=
said Dan York, chief content officer of DirecTV: "The Weather Channel has removed its service from DIRECTV, and while that's regrettable, DIRECTV will continue to provide its customers with what they've been asking for, around-the-clock, 100 percent weather news and information now available on WeatherNation (Channel 362).

"Consumers understand there are now a variety of other ways to get weather coverage, free of reality show clutter, and that The Weather Channel does not have an exclusive on weather coverage - the weather belongs to everyone.

"Most consumers don't want to watch a weather information channel with a forecast of a 40 percent chance of reality TV.  So with that in mind, we are in the process of discussing an agreement to return the network to our line-up at the right value for our customers."][/quote]

I only watch the weather channel when there's nothing else to watch.  I don't like weather.com because its full of ads and other junk that slow everything down.  I like accuweather.com

I check the weather online nowadays. It is a lot more convenient to go straight to the region you are in rather than waiting for a television program to progress through the list of places they need to report on.

Does accuweather.com do hour-by-hour forecasts of individual ZIP codes?

I get Weather Nation on broadcast.  I used to wake up to Weather Channel when I chased hot air balloons, but don't want to pay for TV these days.  My brother likes to watch WC, in Michigan, and has told me how they changed.  They're going the way of MTV.  I liked that in the beginning when it was all music videos with rock star guest VJ's, but lost interest when they changed to "reality" shows.  :dontknow:

I'm not surprised Direct TV dropped the Weather Channel. When we were with Dish they'd get into disputes with channels all the time. I don't watch that channel myself but my mom does. She wasn't very happy.

I have to agree that I think the Weather Channel along with so many of the Discovery Network chnnels are focusing more on drama events than actually reporting on what they should be and the Weather Channel is a classic example of it.  Luckily here in the DFW metero mess we have so many channels reporting weather that it is easy to keep up without haveing to depend on the sporatic information from the so called Weather Channel.

Reality TV has been like a virus to television networks, I'm so tired of them.
