Returned Gift

Have you ever returned a gift?  My 3rd grade grandaughter was given a rather expensive gold chain by one of her classemates and her mom had her return the gift with a nice thanks but no thanks note.

Well I can understand returning the chain because that is a little much for a 3rd grader to be from a friend. But I've never given a gift back to the person who gave it, I just say thanks and then try to take it back to a store.

"Parents Just Don't Understand!" And they always feel like they must! The parents in this case (your kid & their spouse) probably felt like such a 'gift' was actually "for the first kid to keep" (like an heirloom), and the first kid either didn't comprehend the value involved or actually lost it (whether your grandkid 'stole' it or just found it).

I have never had a situation like that....I'd probably have kept it but stored it away for special use.

Wish I got a gold chain for Christmas the girl probably didn't realize how expensive it may have been.

I've never returned a gift but in this case I can see why the parent did. I wouldn't think that a third grader would be giving such an expensive gift.

I am wondering if the item wasn't as expensive as thought I know a lady who reuses her boxes and doest remove the prices because she wants people to think that she has spent a lot of money on their present than she does

If the girls were good friends I don't see what the problem is.  If the other family has plenty of money maybe the chain wasn't that big of a deal.  I have never given a gift back to the person who gave it to me. Not that I can remember anyway.  If I gave a person a gift and they gave it back saying 'thanks but no thanks' I think that would really hurt my feelings.  I wouldn't give it to them if I didn't want them to have it or if I couldn't afford to give it to them.
