This Is Why Your Prayers Go Unanswered
« on: January 14, 2014, 07:29:06 am »
Because You're Praying Wrong!

Now you'd think I'd bring up the old 'James'-quote ('You have not because you ask not; you ask and yet receive not because you ask amiss,') but this 'apocalypse' (revelation) came to me while reading Jesus' explanation of His use of parables.

I read this & remembered Mother Teresa's answer when asked how she prays: "I don't say anything, I just listen." Asked what God says then, she replied, "Nothing; He just listens." And that opens up a specific understanding---that prayer is part of a conversation with God! Therefore one must LISTEN when one prays, must WATCH for His answer (just like a good conversationalist must LISTEN & WATCH the people they're talking-to)!

God isn't necessarily saying "No" if you don't get what you're asking for, He's more-likely saying "Not yet" or "Not until you're ready." The right response to this is not 'Woe is me, damned to Hell as I am!' Rather, the right response is 'What do you wish of me?'

Amen?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------That's what a Pharisee might say today. You now have the chance to respond as my mentor Jesus-of-Joseph would, and I pray that you will!

WRONG! :P Jesus said 'Our Father in Heaven knows what you need before you even NEED IT!' You have to have faith in THAT, and need to ask God to help you look for THAT!

This Is Why Your Prayers Go Unanswered

"A man who prays is a man who thinks god has arranged matters all wrong, but who also thinks he can instruct god to put them right."

- Hitchens

I think if praying helps you cope with life, do it. Praying, meditation, etc.- everyone does something to help cope with things. But if you're going around saying it legitimately works and should be practiced regularly by all, that is a snake-oil salesmen technique.

Again, that's because people think of "prayer" as something it's not! Prayer IS 'a dialog'---'a CONVERSATION with God' (NOT "a work-order for God to fulfill"). It's just like talking with your mother or father (except you can SEE them in the same form that 'answers' you): you ask them to help you get something, and they'll tell you where it is, how to get it yourself or who can get it for you.

But their reply doesn't help you if you're not listening for it! Same with God (with the obvious additions of looking-, feeling-, smelling etc.-for it).

very interesting, not everyone prays to ask for something.  People pray for many reasons that is a freedom of choice we all have.  When asked for something in pray and it is answered with signs that many are not aware of.  Ask and you shall receive is what we are taught from the bible seek and ye shall find it etc get the picture god is here for us whether we ask in a way you think is wrong or in a way we want too.  nothing you do with god is every done wrong.

Bible says: “Jehovah is near to all those calling upon him, to all those who call upon him in trueness. The desire of those fearing him he will perform, and their cry for help he will hear.” (Psalm 145:18, 19) Just think of what that means! The almighty Creator is near to us and will hear us if we “call upon him in trueness.” What a privilege we have to approach God in prayer!
2 If we want Jehovah to listen to our prayers, however, we must pray to him in the way that he approves. How can we do this unless we understand what the Bible teaches about prayer? It is vital for us to know what the Scriptures say on this subject, for prayer helps us to draw closer to Jehovah.
WHY PRAY TO JEHOVAH?
3 One important reason why we should pray to Jehovah is that he invites us to do so. His Word encourages us: “Do not be anxious over anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6, 7) Surely we would not want to ignore such a kind provision made for us by the Supreme Ruler of the universe!

So you're just saying they're having a conversation.

mythociate, I like the part you said about prayer being a conversation. I think it's true, sometimes you get what you ask for when you are supposed to.  It's all a learning lesson.
