I like the idea of people doing something to get some of these benefits.  Obviously, if you have a disability that you physically can't do these things, then maybe you could be excluded.

But yeah, I feel like if someone is out of a job for a long time, people would benefit from having a small job just to sorta fill out the blank spot.  I had a job recruiter ask me what I've been doing in my spare time and I'd only been out of work for a two month at the time, so I can imagine they are doing the same to others.  Perhaps they just did it to me because I was just out of school, but it still was weird.

And when a person is drawing unemployment when they are laid off thru no fault of their own if it is just a couple of months I don't agree with saying the need to do something for the benefits.  They are not drawing off the government.  Every business pays unemployment in on their employees.  Employees do NOT contribute to this contrary to what a lot of people think.  I am trying to find a job but right now there aren't any out there.  Even fast food places do not hire in the middle of January.

I don't know who the srs is but I am pretty sure that's not a solution.  There aren't any jobs to get.  That's the problem.  I was laid off AGAIN on the 30th.  I don't need somebody to GET me a job.  I need jobs to be available.  The people who have been drawing for 2 years obviously aren't trying very hard because there have been jobs out there.  Might not be what they want to do but living off the government for a lifetime is not a choice.  And after the initial 26 weeks of unemployment then it's called welfare.  I know people who will not look for a job as long as they can get unemployment.  And there are not an abundance of jobs where you stuff envelopes.  They have machines that do stuff like that.  I totally disagree with making the people who are REALLY disabled get jobs.
My wife is disabled and she has often wished there was something that she could do at home she just gets to hurting and would like to get paid to do something at home and take her mind off of her pain I wasn't trying to be rude to anybody .My wife could probably answer phones maybe for about 30 minutes or so a day. but she cant drive.

Maybe people don't take a job paying minimum wage if it is all they can get and stay on until something better comes up. I can understand that reasoning depends on your situation.

The fact is, jobs are scarce, and it is no longer the fact of what you can do, but who do you know in the industry and if they will give you a job.   You can have all the degrees known to man and yet, when it is over, you may not get a job because you can be passed over for a younger worker or the employer may say you are overqualified.   I am waiting for a call from ExperienceWorks, who is supposed to help experienced workers like me find work.  I have gotten two calls from them; one asked me if I wanted to be placed on a waiting list, and the second call I received told me they would get in touch with me and not to give up on them.  I need a job now, not later. ??? ??? ??? :rainbow:

People who are truly disabled should not be forced to work.  In my area there are a ton of people who get "crazy checks" and there is nothing wrong with them other than laziness.  They stay at the pool all summer and lay around the house all winter.  Then my neighbor who drew unemployment for 3 years and did not even look for a job.  They finally kicked her off and she still don't work. lol.   And people who are truly disabled I don't have any issues with them drawing government checks.  And I wouldn't agree with a truly disabled person being forced to do something to earn her check.  It's the ones who are cheating the system.  Grrr.

Then you take the min wage job until the something better does come along.  You take what you can get.  Not sit on your butt for 2 plus years drawing checks off the government.

It's basically who you know.  Most jobs are like that these days.  Doesn't matter how much experience you have if somebody's kid wants the job they will get it first.

There are jobs out there you just have to be wlling to work at something different then what you did before. And it may not pay as much. So get 2 jobs.  As far as the employers are paying for long term unemployment is a bunch of crock. You only paid for a certain amount of time depending on how long you worked the company. Congress has just passed a bill for another 26 weeks of unemployment. ( sounds more like welfare too me) and the taxpayers are going to have to pay for it.  I think they said average of $300.00 a month.Well seems to me that amount is nothing compared too if you are working .  Yhis a give away country anymore. If the money sent overseas for obeamers pet projects stayed here in our country things would be better.
