Do you train your dog or cat?
« on: January 02, 2014, 07:43:48 pm »
We have a big dog and he will look at the food but in no way he will touch it. I trained him when he was a puppy that it was wrong and he listens to my commands except when I am getting his food ready then he dog talks to tell me to hurry up but I can put up to that. We also have a bed for him and another section that is his punishment corner so when he is naughty and we tell him it is wrong he goes in the corner and comes out when we say it is okay to come out. It all depends on the training and the tone of your voice. I always make sure to love him also so he knows the difference. About 15 years ago I had a big dog and a cat and the cat was so well trained that he never went on the table or anything up high not even the couch, he always stayed on the floor and rested in his bed. It is all how you want your animal to be with yourself and other people.

My dog is kind of spoiled. He has taken offer one of our couches and has his own blanket, but he is trained to use the restroom outside.

You must have patience because no matter how old the dog is he can be trained. It is your tone of voice and remember when you want him to give you his paw pick up his paw and then give him a treat. if you do it often enough he will give you his paw when you ask. I hope this helps you

I don't own any animals; however, there are 2 stray kitties who have adopted me and are in the process of training me.    ;D
Have a great day!

I don't have a dog or cat, but my parrot is potty trained.  If he has to poop, he flies to his cage.

My cat has certainly trained *me.*  She's very good at getting me to turn on the faucet so that she can drink from it.

I had our dogs before my now husband and I started dating. They were somewhat trained, but he trained both of them quickly. I am the lover, he is the disciplinarian, yet they still love him more...go figure hehe.

Sound like you've done a great job training your animals.  I have been very fortunate that my animals have never tried to touch our food.  They wait very patiently to get there food and sometimes if I'm busy & forget, they will come and talk to me to let me know they are ready to eat.  It is easy to tell by the tone of there bark or growl what they are trying to tell me such as they need to go out or they want to eat.

We have our daughter's cat here.  I would not say that we have "trained" him.  He is litter trained which is just basic cat instinct.

He knows he isn't supposed to get on the counter, but we know he does because you can hear him "thud" onto the floor when he jumps off as we come into the kitchen.  Rarely do we "catch him" on the counter.

(I am grateful for antibacterial sprays to clean the counters!!)

that is good. I have also trained my dog a little like you. she touches her plates when she needs water or food or touches the door to be let out. When she does something bad gets time out but knows all kinds of tricks.

The cat we adopted my son has taught many things of how he wanted his Cat to react too. So far so good.
