I start taking them down right after Christmas. I am a little behind this year.

Right on! We always take down all of the holiday decorations the week-end after New Years eve.  Not because we are too hung over but, as you said, the house looks so bare. By waiting that one extra week we don't feel so bad about getting the house dressed up for Valentine's day! I have been working so much over the past two years that it has been hard to follow any kind of sane path to taking the decorations down.  Thank heaven my son is getting old enough to help (he is fourteen).  My wife and sixteen year old daughter are experts at putting everything up...usually with Holiday music piping and a glass of wine in my wife's hand.

It varies, but always within a week of new years.

This year, I took down the day right after Christmas, generally I leave up a little longer but was not in the mood to do so this time, so everything came down, but did keep the wreath on door a little longer.

I was wondering that same thing because I see people in my neighborhood still have their Christmas decorations up.  Although I still enjoy looking at it that holiday has passed. I'm decorating this year and I plan to put it up the day after Thanksgiving and take it down New Year's Eve.

I always wait until the end of the Christmas season has truly passed, namely after the 12th day of Christmas.  The 12 Days of Christmas is more than just a Christmas carol; on the 12th day of Christmas, Christians celebrate the Epiphany which is the day that the 3 wise men arrive at the manger scene / birth of Jesus. So I'll usually wait until the weekend following January 6th.

I don't have a set date. I just wait for, a day when I'm bored beyond all recognition,  then take them down.  Usually I start to cry because a lot of my ornaments are gifts from people who have passed away.  This year I was actually sobbing in my husbands arms over a crystal pig ornament. I'm kind of sentimental that way. Next year I'll do better.
