Computer Withdrawal
« on: December 31, 2013, 10:02:18 am »
For the last 3 days, I had no access to a computer. I didn't have internet so had to send it out to a repair shop. They were new to me because I always had a friend take care of any problems (paying him, of course).

It was very stressful to say the least since they didn't pick it up when they stated they would come by. So, I was really twiddling my thumbs waiting. Couldn't wait for today to call them and see if they were making good progress. Tried talking me into a whole bunch of other stuff and deleting my malware program because it 'slowed my computer down.' No, it didn't. I've had that program (with updates) for a couple years and didn't see any problems. In the meantime, I lost out on 3 days of emails, and doing other FC stuff, plus not being able to connect to my relatives on Facebook.

Kinda strange, though. They said it was my power supply....my other older computer has a power supply problem, too. It won't turn on, just like this one. Can't figure out why the power supply would stop me from getting on the internet (when it did turn on).

Oh, well. Hopefully, this will be okay now. Don't need any more problems.

Yes, being without the Internet can be stressful.  I've been there!  It's even worse when the repair shop doesn't complete the repairs in a timely manner.  It's unbelievable to me how much I use the Internet in my life and how much I miss it when I don't have access.  It really is like withdrawal.  I've been stressed this month because I've simply been too busy with trips and Christmas activities to use the Internet like I normally do.  I'm looking forward to January where hopefully, my schedule will be back to normal.

It's been a really long time since I have went multiple days with no computer and internet access.  When I went on vacations I use to be away from the computer, but now almost all hotels have a computer with free internet access and now I also have a smart phone with internet access

I can't even imagine! I am so dependent on my computer for entertainment and academic reasons. If I had to go without a computer for even a day I honestly don't know what I would do with my life. :turkey:

Thanks everyone. I thought I was the only one with the withdrawal, not only for the Internet or other local reasons I use the computer.....so I spent the time catching up on shredding documents from old clients that had top priority privacy issues, old credit card statements, bank statements, and old genealogy info that was no longer valid. I just got this shredder and I think I almost burned it up already! I spent this whole week doing it (shredder didn't work well if doing more than 3 pages at a time) and wound up with 9 bags of shredded paper.

I never thought I would say it but I really miss the computer if it has difficulties and needs fixing. I don't spend hours on it but I do regularly check my email, do FC and shop on the computer.

I had to go three months without a computer after my dog pulled the computer off onto the floor and broke it.  It was a LONG three months and it cost me money by not having it since I work part-time on-line.  It taught me to always have a back up system for "just in case".

I get withdrawal symptoms when my internet's out for a day! I even end up taking a laptop with me when I go on vacation. Although one time I didn't, and spent a week without computers. I must say, it was very relaxing and refreshing!
