We have a fresh cut.  When we were little we would go out and walk through the snow and find the one we wanted and cut it down ourselves, but now that we are all a little bit too busy for all that we get a pre-cut one.  Still, the smell is amazing.

Fresh cut all the way.  Having grown up with real trees, I don't get artificial ones (at least in my area).  I understand using artificial in areas of the country where you can't really get a "traditional" pine tree, but if you have them growing in your back yard...

You know I do love the smell of a real Christmas tree in the lounge even if it does drop many pine needles throughout the season. However I have two problems with real trees, firstly I take so long looking after my plants and trees in my back garden, if someone just walked in and chopped it down for a temporary seasonal look in their home, I'd be really upset. The second thing is, I don't think I could afford to buy a new tree every year. I've had my artificial tree for 15 years, that's 15 trees I've saved in the forest! I can definitely see the appeal of a real tree throughout Christmas, but then in the New Year, I know I would regret my decision.

We have a very nice artificial tree.  It is easier to get set up and take down than going to another town for a real tree.

When the kids were young, we did go to a tree farm and cut down our own tree.  Those are fond memories.
