"Am I My Brother's Keeper?"
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:56:11 am »
Again, the Church of Christers blare their wrong doctrine into the public consciousness. They affirm that Christians are their brothers' (& sisters') keepers. I (& Jesus Himself) disagree.

Jesus told His disciples--when they brought the Gospel to new villages--just to 'wipe the dust of the town off their feet' if the town wouldn't receive the Gospel.

We are told to 'let our light shine,' not to 'make our siblings' lights shine!'

If you know that your brother is heading down a dangerous road, do you not feel anything to stop him?  Do you not think that he would appreciate it and that we each have either a positive or negative influence on each of those we interact with?

If I know my brother's headed down a dangerous road, then I know my God has some REASON for sending my brother there. He gives 'each of us' free will (NOT just me); 'influenced' choices are not 'freely made,' and loving God out of 'fear of what happens when you DON'T love him' is akin to 'loving your husband `coz he'll BEAT YOU if you don't.' I DON'T WORSHIP A BULLY!

You seem to take a short part of the Bible and argue that passage.  You are not looking at the whole picture.  I too believe in free will, but our "brother" may be headed in the wrong direction and not realize it.  We can help them by letting them know.  If they don't want to listen, they are not obligated to do so.  I believe I am my brother's/neighbor's keeper because Jesus said to love your neighbor (I think that includes everyone, even brothers) as yourself.   And can you explain what you mean when you keep saying you do not serve a "bully."  God is not a bully; he loves all his children.

If my brother was heading down a dangerous road I would try to talk to him. But if he doesn't listen then I would have to tell myself that it was worth the try to keep him out of trouble.
