What's with all the commercials these days?

Do you realize the current hour TV show only runs about 42 minutes without commercials?20 years ago,an hour program ran around 50 minutes!Before you know it,an hour program will only contain a half hour of content!

I believe that. Last night I was watching a program and it seemed like every 3 minutes there was a commercial break. Good thing I don't pay for t.v. anymore.

Because people want paid more and more money.  It costs more and more to run the shows and they need more and more ads to support their airtime.  I hadn't seen it in a while but just saw the joe boxer ad again.  I turned the channel.  That is the most offensive nasty ad I have seen in a long time.

Ugh!!!  I couldn't agree with you more!  I actually think the show itself runs a LOT less than 42 minutes!  How about when they show a certain commercial TWICE or THREE TIMES IN A ROW!  OMG, I wanna kick the TV set in!  I HATE commercials and I HATE how much they've taken over EVERYTHING on television!  I consider it SPAM.  SPAM on the TV, SPAM in your mail box 3 times a week, SPAM in your e-mail, SPAM left on your front door.  You can't get away from it!

I was very aware of this, that is why I record my shows on my DVR, and then fast forward thru the commercials!
It is funny that I love the Fusion Cash ad surveys for $.075 at least I get paid for watching  commercials
now! lol

I don't mind the commercials, sometimes I find myself rewinding through the adverts just so that I can remind myself what that product name was again! But in Superbowl, I go to town. I love the commercials in Superbowl.

Even the commercials that are cute and funny in the beginning are getting extremely tiresome after endless repetitions.  If I see one more guy hosing down his gigantic baby in the yard I'm going to puke.

I agree with many of the comments here about repetition. Ads are just ridiculous. A one hour TV show feels like there are 45 min of ads and it's the same 5 ads playing each commercial break. I make it a point to NOT use the products.

I agree there seems to be a lot more "commercial" time than there is "Program" time more and more these days.  Maybe that's why most people don't like to watch conventional T.V.

I don't know about an hour tv shows... But back in the 1900's there are two 5 minutes commercials for a thirty minute cartoon show (as a kid, that always annoy the hell out of me..... dat DBZ days).... So I don't think much has change... But what do I know, I don't watch tv shows anymore 

I guess that Tv programs need advertisement funding since people are moving away from tv and going towards laptops, tablets, or cellphones (basically internet stuff)... But it's harder to get ad funding in programs in the internet due to adblocking....

Although I know that TV shows need commercial ads for funding, that does not make me like them.  I think most of them are either suggestive or downright crude.  They go by the principle that "sex sells," but I think they are disgusting.

you are so right !!!!  we never get a good show,,,,  all we get are the commercials which i have a hard time watching.  I usually flip channels during that time      its a shame we have to pay for cable,,,,  i really think we are paying to watch commercials these days
