Elf On The Shelf

Has anyone used the Elf on the shelf with their kids yet? It really helps my ADHD child with his behavior!! We had one incident this week when my son tried touching the elf and we know you cannot touch the elf or he loses his magic and cannot fly back to the North Pole to report to Santa all the nice & naughty things he or she has done. So our elf "Jack" did not come back tonight and left my son a note. He is recouping at the elf hospital to regain his strength and hopefully will get his magical powers back. I get a kick out of seeing my son every morning looking for Jack to see where he landed in our home every single day.

As a major skeptic on things like this.. I have seen videos where the elf has moved or the eyes have moved.. I don't even belive that it moves or understand the concept behind the elf on the shelf.. Would you mind telling me what it is all about? Does the elf actually move or does someone actually move it? Expand on this subject a bit please and thank you.

I hope you are kidding. lol.  No the elf cannot move on its own.  It's kind of like Santa Claus.  He isn't real.  It's make believe.  I am not sure the whole concept behind it but the parents move the elf to where ever they want it to be.

I heard about Elf on the Shelf for the first time last week-- what a fun concept!  A friend showed me some photos of an Elf and his "magical" tasks that had been performed during the night.  It was a real hoot!  I have no little children, but if I did I think I would enjoy staging Elf pranks.

Well you see i needed a little more explanation (which you gave and i thank you) because i wasn't understanding the full concept of this whole Elf on the shelf.. I saw some videos on youtube were it would move it's eyes and move around ( which i thought was bogus because it's an elf.. They eyes i kinda belived) Upon looking on the site i saw it takes batteries.. So i was kinda thinking okay.. it's a mechanical elf and moves on it's own.. But then again.. I was curious as to how it would move on it's own if it were up high and moved to a low place and vice versa..{{ But if the parent's move it then what is the mechanical part for? Or is there even a mechanical part?If not then why do they require batteries? Or do they all not require batteries?}} <--This is still  the part i'm confused about. Thanks for helping me to understand

I think the whole idea behind it is if your child thinks someone is watching, they are less likely to behave badly and therefore are more likely to do the right thing, hence they'll end up on Santa good list. I think it's a lovely idea, especially for the kiddies that have ADHD or whatever they have.

lol.  I misunderstood.  I didn't realize it was mechanical.  I thought you were asking if a stuffed elf moved around the house on its own.  The only one I saw was just stuffed and didn't do anything but sit there with a silly grin on his face.  I think if it moved on it's own as part of a mechanical thing it would freak me out a little bit.  Actually it would freak me out a lot. lol

LOL!  Well, this sure sounds like fun!  I love a good kiddie prank!  I've never heard of the Elf on the Shelf and if I had small children, I certainly would LOVE to play!!

The closest I've ever come to something even remotely close to this was when my son was a babe and I was trying to get him to give up the baby bottles!  I devised an idea.  My son was born Christmas Eve and was a BIG TIME MILK DRINKER!  Man, that kid would go through 4 or 5 bottles a NIGHT and I'd find them all over the bedroom floor in the morning, LOL.  I decided it was time for him to drink from a big-boy cup.  Well, I had a conversation with my boy about Santa Claus and if he really enjoyed all the wonderful things that Santa brings for him at Christmas.  Of course, he agreed that he loved new toys.  I told him that in order for Santa to MAKE these new toys all year round and bring them to all the children of the world, Santa needed certain materials.  At this point, I opened the kitchen cabinet where I kept all of his baby bottles, caps, rings, etc.  I showed him and I said, "Santa needs your ba-bas to make all of those great toys."  LOL!!!  He stood there shocked at first.  So I told him, "Mike, are you willing to give up your ba-bas this Christmas so Santa can make you and other children toys in his workshop?"  I told him he was a big boy now and didn't need any baby stuff anymore.  It WORKED!  My son gave up those bottles in a flash!  That night after bedtime, those bottles disappeared (thanks to Mama Elf) and we lived happily ever after drinking from a cup, LOL!!  Next morning, he wanted to see what was in the cabinet.  I opened it and he saw a big empty space.  I told him Santa's Elves came last night and took the bottles away and that he could expect some great new toys on his birthday and Christmas Day.  Haha!  MAN!  I had to do some creative stuff with my son but, if it worked, no harm done!

I have an  Elf on the Shelf  his name is "Henry".   You never know where you may find him during the Christmas Holidays lol    He gets moved around the house a lot.  One morning I found him in my car LOL   Its just me and my hubby so each of us moves  Henry all over.    Sometimes my kids will come home and find him and they set him somewhere lol      Sounds sort of childish for grown ups to do this but we get a laugh out of it and thats all that matters

Our oldest daughter got the Elf On The Shelf for her daughter last year.  The Elf was sitting in the Christmas tree when we went down to see them but had moved the next morning.  Seemed like a sweet idea.  Anyway, our youngest daughter told me just today that she is getting one for her little girl (she's 2 1/2 yrs old)  and if I know that little girl she will be super excited about the whole ordeal!  I can't wait to hear from her about it!

Ooooooh!! I love the idea of putting him in my truck with the seat belt on!!! lol, that will be my next attempt to place "Jack"! Last night he TP'd the Christmas tree...lol. moving him around for 24 days is getting exhausting though! Can't find enough of unique ideas! But I thank you for this one! lol  This was him the other day....look what he did to my NEW lipstick!! LOL

I see this in stores now. i was just in booksamillion and they have tons of Elf on the Shelf items. I don't remember ever hearing about it before this year. When did it start?

My grandkids love this elf. It gets them so excited.
