Fruitcake
« on: December 08, 2013, 01:16:45 pm »
What is the best brand of fruitcake to get for christmas? I've never ate fruitcake before cause I hear people say it's not that good. Could anyone tell me what the best one to get is? I'd like to try it.
Thank you.

It is not often i make a fruit cake, but it so much  better then most that are made.  Most of them sold in the department stores are not worth buying. Figi's makes a good one but it would really cost you. Since i am the only one who likes fruit cake i rarely make one. It can be frozen so i acan just get 1 slice out at a time and it last forever.

I like fruit cake.  I have a hard time in slicing it thinly.   :P

We always got one from my grandma as a kid.....hated it every year.  No fond memories....maybe it's an adult thing.

I have never liked fruit cake.  I like my fruit individually.  I also hate jam cakes.
Have a wonderful day!

Harry and David's make a decent traditional fruitcake and they ship it in a tin which can be used again to store cookies or whatever. :silly:

I don't know the brand, but I would know it if I saw it.  I love fruitcake!!  :in-love:  My dad used to be a bakery supply sales person and he would have the fruit and nuts along with cake mixes and more always around.  We would sneak and eat the fruit!!  So good! ;)

I make a lovely fruitcake with bananas, avocado, pecans and walnuts. It's absolutely delicious but it does take an hour and a half to bake. I sometimes make it for people (teachers etc) to thank them for their hard work with our children.

My favorite recipe for fruitcake was super easy and tasty.  It called for crushed vanilla wafers, candied fruit, dates and nuts.  It has been awhile since I made one so I don't remember the proportions-- also, it may have had an egg or two.  That was it.  There was just enough vanilla wafer crumbs to coat the fruit and help it stick together.  I packed it in an angel food cake pan (a bundt pan would work as well) and baked it.  Best fruitcake ever.
