Think 10yr old boys for sure still like hotwheels. Barbies maybe at 12 I was to old, can't even remember what I liked.

Well I have an almost 10 year old boy (10 next April) and whilst he will always smile when I buy him Hotwheels, he'll only look at it for a couple of minutes and then he'll be back onto his XBox. So I think 10 years old is a bit too old for Hotwheels. I'll be buying K'Nex or Lego sets for my nearly 10 year old this Christmas. Regarding the 12 year old girl, wouldn't she be better off with make-up or glittery nail polish? Just wondering. Good Luck.

Well, I think it all depends on the individual kid,and what they are into. My daughter says girls really like Monster High dolls now, Barbies are not as popular. I think it is best to ask the parents, if your thinking about getting a gift.

Unfortunately, traditional toys aren't too popular nowadays since most kids are into video games or other gadgets. Maybe you can consider simple model kits for the boy and maybe stationary stuff for the girl?

At 10 and 12 years old, I wouldn't buy a child that size a Barbie or Hot Wheels.  They love them when they are younger.  Hot Wheels are collector items.  So are Barbies.  But you can buy something that is age appropriate.  Good luck in that department.   :highfive:

The 10 year old should still like hot wheels, the 12 year old girl might not b into Barbie. She may like a nice shirt r a gift card to her fav clothing store.

In both cases I'm going to have to say it depends on the child and the child alone.  You can't go and say one 10 year old likes one thing and one doesn't because their are alot of diffrent situations, Personalities, scenarios. For example. If a kid lived in a shelter and a barbie or a hotwheels was all she or he had. Compared to A kid who was spoiled and got everything she or he ever wanted. Those are two diffrent scenarios even the same age wouldn't really matter because it's not age reflected it's personality and scenario reflected. Another example would be Having 2 of the same aged kids playing together but with diffrent toys. They could come together and play the same scenario still with diffrent toys or they can go seprate ways and use their imagination and explore their options and still have a good time with their own toys their own way.  Children tend to have diffrent imaginations  and diffrent thought processes. No one child is alike and they do not come with intruction manual's it's up to us to listen to their voices and put that into motion and discover what their intrests are.

Yes to the hot wheels, more than likely no for the Barbie dolls. This age group is more likely to be involved with games and music.

Thanks for all the tips! I am buying for a family I know nothing about other than gender and ages, so that is why I asked. Times have CHANGED since I was a kid!

My generation would like hot wheels at the age of 10, but 12 is a bit old for a girl with Barbies. That's how I feel. If you're talking kids nowadays they seem to be into video games or playing apps on a phone/smartphone/tablet in either age.
