Prilosec OTC works great for me :)

Course eating less spicy foods and greasy foods helps too :)

Tidee if it is severe you should see a good Dr.I have hearburn too and i am my worst enemy with my diet. When it becomes chronic we cant be putting band-aids on it to just get relief. You have to attack the problem from its roots so you dont suffer. The over the counter meds are OK but remember thats not a cure.

Yeah I get more heartburn now than ever before. Except when I was pregnant with both of my boys. I used to get the most awful acid heartburn then and of course you are limited as to what you can take when you are pregnant. But generally, as I get older (I'm now 45) this is creeping into my life frequently, especially if I eat too much or have anything remotely unbland. I've never used over the counter medications but I'm thinking about it. Until now I've managed on a nice cold glass of milk which does work, but only temporary.

I am on medication for what they call GERD. I tried different medication before I found the one that works for me, not everyone is the same so, It may not work for everyone. When I was using over the counter meds for it, I used Prilosec. It seemed to work but, sometimes I would have to take 4 pills a day - 2 in am and 2 in pm. When I went to the Doctor for the condition he tried me on aciflex, that did not work for me at all. They changed me to the prescription Prilosec - that again worked about the same as the over the counter prilosec, he then changed me to the Purple pill - Nexium EQ - that has worked for me great! I normally don't have any occurrence of the gerd, just as long as I stay away from certain foods. I take it daily 40mg pill and it works great!

It is my understanding that some of the more common OTC products for heartburn can actually make the problem worse. Those are the products that are the ones that try to neutralize stomach acids. The theory is that the human body 'self regulates' a certain level of acid content and strength, when that level is reduced by 'artificial means', the body just produces even more acids to compensate. So when one takes in Tums, Rolaids, or other things of that ilk they might get some temporary relief but in short order the body will over compensate and the cycle starts all over.

I would see a doctor if this is a constant battle. There are a number of drugs that might be suitable for an individual but not suited for another person. It is also my understanding that most of the things that are on the market as OTC and as Rx items definitely effect other medications, so getting a physicians input is a very good idea.

If you're suffering that bad, I suggest you see a physician.  Hearburn can be a lot of different things and if you have it bad enough, it can erode your esophagus (from the acid that keeps washing up in to it).  Get an appointment with a Gastroenterologist and talk to them about it.  They may suggest you have an Endoscopy, but don't worry, it's a fairly simple procedure and you'll be asleep the whole time and won't feel a thing - I promise!  I hope you feel better!

Just about everything I eat gives me heartburn.  I had my gall bladder removed and I thought that would help, but it has not.  My sister swears by drinking a little vinegar in water.

I have heartburn at least once a week the best thing to do is to not to eat foods that make it worse. If it progresses see your doctor right away.
