what do you think about the reduction in the snap progam/food stamps

I think it will help weed out the ones who are abusing the system but I feel terrible for the ones that truly need it. I know a lady who is old retired and is disabled.  she says that she only got 30 dollars this month. with her being on a really strict budget she has only eaten one meal a day for quite a while well plus a small snack she says she just will eat one meal a day  and just half  of that and save the other half for tomorrow.  she doesn't have any family to help her out.

How will it help weed out the ones abusing the system.  They cut everyone drawing by a certain amount.  A family of ONE was cut only $11 and a family of 4 was cut around $36.  I am not calling you a liar but I kind of doubt what she is saying.  I guess I have just seen too many liars lately.  I don't believe anybody and their sob stories.  I am having a really hard time but yet I manage.  Ramen Noodle soup is only 12 cents a package.  You can eat that every day for one meal if you have to.  Eat peanut butter or cheese sandwiches.  People can eat for a lot less.  May not be what they want to eat but it is something to eat.

The person that I was referring to is also on a special diet  everything is not always cut an dried there are other facts that I did not give but I guess I wrongly assumed that by giving a description of old retired and disabled that most people would be able to put 2+2 together.  There is no way that this person would be able to hold a job she doesn't own a computer and at this point in her life she never will and has never owned one. 
I don't know about other food banks and churches but my local ones are very low on food and are begging for donations.

I guess it boils down to we are all having a hard time.  Most people who are working are struggling to feed themselves and can't afford to buy food to donate to a food bank that is given to people who are just lazy.
The ones who truly need help usually fall thru the cracks because they will not ask for help.  And from what you said there is no way to put two and two together.  I guess I have just heard so many lies and seen so much deception I don't believe people any longer.  The majority of people you talk to these days will say they are disabled.  If you can do whatever you want to (other than work which they don't want to do) then they aren't disabled.  Same with eating.  If you suggest ramen noodles and peanut butter or cheese most will say 'oh I have a special diet' so they can have a reason to say they can't eat the cheap stuff.   I realize some people do have special diets but most do not.  I don't want to eat peanut butter and soup beans every meal but if it keeps me from starving then that is what I will eat.

Also, I do not know of any churches in my town that hand out food.  They might give $20 to somebody for food. lol.  And then pat themselves on the back about how they helped somebody when they have over $100,000 in the bank.  I also don't know of any food banks.  There is a place to buy cheap mostly expired foods.  But they sell it they don't give it away.  Things are not getting any better.  People can survive with a lot less than they do.

It's not the place of the churches to provide food for every dead beat who will not work.  I know way too many people who have went into a church and told a lie to get money that was used for drugs not food.  Thus the reason churches quit helping when people randomly asked.  I am not defending the churches or attacking them.  It just irritates me when people (most of which don't even believe in God) want to blame the churches for people being hungry and homeless and not putting the blame on the person who will not work.  I seen 4 different people outside my workplace Saturday holding various signs about hungry, will work for food, need money anything helps.  Yet NONE of the dead beats holding a sign will go into where I work and fill out an application.  And yes we are hiring.

What are the churches for, then? Building huge mega-churches and putting satellites in space so they can broadcast around the world??

I never saw where Jesus said anything about that.

Churches are supposed to be representatives of God in the world. And if the churches care more about their buildings and their status than they do about people in trouble, then I can't blame people for not believing in God.

Well for starters, the system is defunct as it is. There are way too many people abusing the system. And what that does is make it worse for the people that truly need it. I see it all the time where I live. I go to the supermarket and see these people with fur coats, diamond rings and food stamps. And these people have at least 4 or 5 kids, so they get money for each of them. I also see the older people, the ones that you can tell don't have anything, they get the short end of the stick. And they get limited stamps and I also have seen the store cashier tell these poor people they are not allowed this or that. But the others, the ones with the furs, get whatever they want. It is very unsettling. I can bet that the people that don't need it will still get way more than those who need it.

The system is being abused so much by lazy not wanting to work people.  Hopefully this will be a good way to get them out of the system and starting working like the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The programs are needed, but not to be abused by those who are too lazy to try to find a job.  But it is needed by those who are mentally and physically challenged.  I don't think it should be reduced, but the government does what it wants and damn those who are in need.  I worked hard all my life so that the lazy ones got paid and bought too expensive clothes and gym shoes so that they can keep up with Joneses.  It's rather Ironic really.

I think it will hurt those that really need it; it is unfortunate that the abusers of the program are making it difficult for those who are really in need.

i feel bad for the ones that really need it.  my mom received food stamps, she only got 16 dollars a week.  since the cutback she gets nothing.  for things to be getting better, it really doesnt look like it.

It's completely absurd. There is no excuse for cutting the funds for this program. The cuts need to be made on the salaries, benefits, and retirements of the government employees (Senate, House, Congress, President, etc.) AND in the way the government is spending funds (wars, funding foreign militias/rebels, bogus aid packages, etc.) This war on the poor needs to end immediately and the coddling of the 1% needs to end immediately. The focus should first and foremost be on the people of its own nation, taking care of its own people and stabilizing the country before it goes about sending money off to others. (A table is only as strong as its legs, and right now the legs of the American table are extraordinarily unstable.)

First, it isn't exactly a reduction.  The expansion of the program has expired and it is back to how it was before.  I agree though, I think it should weed out a lot of those taking advantage of it.  Which I think is much needed.

It's possible it will weed out those who has never to attempted to work, but sometimes the government go overboard with cutting some people off especially those who are disabled physically and mentally.  It is going to be a big problem because there aren't a lot of companies who are not hiring-in fact some companies are closing completely.  The balancing act for the program is going to hard on a lot of people.
