being busy all the time is unhealthy
« on: October 30, 2013, 07:37:06 am »
nobody should be busy all the time, and have no time to just relax and enjoy life. I remember when I had two jobs, I didn't even have time to watch a movie before bed, i just went home and crashed and started all over the next day. And on my two days off I was either covering someone's shift or spending time with my family. Have you ever been so busy that life just passes you by?

Yes, in college I had 3 part time jobs and my head was spinning.  But, my career paid off and I had good pay and benefits most of my career.  There was also a time when my 2 children were very young and I just crashed into bed each night. ???

i have always been a multitask-er.  when i was in high school i had a full time jobs as well and when i went to college full time i still had a full time job.  now i am a stay at home mom and i still have no time to myself because i am busy working online to help earn some income and busy chasing after a son who is soon to be 1.  not to mention the fact of taking care of my grown child who is 28 and entertaining the idea of getting pregnant again.

I think the only people that don't fall under this category are under the age of 14.  My family and I were just discussing how time has just flown by.  The last 3 years have brought changes among me and my entire family and so much has happened that it seems we haven't even had the time to sit back and enjoy it.  We've even gone as far as scheduling down time and even on those 2 or 3 hour stretches - something comes up and and we are pulled in different directions.

There is not wrong with being busy. However, all work and no play is unhealthy. Always take a little time for rest and relaxation. It helps you recharge your battery to be the best you can be.

I've kept myself busy my entire adult life but now that I'm retired I get so bored sometimes.  It's nice to be able to sit at home if I just feel like it but there are days when I really miss the hustle bustle of working every day.  Guess I'll eventually adjust.

Maybe i should slow down then

I go to school but I seem to have a lot of free time on my hand.
I've been applying to several jobs because "I need something to do'

I know may people who are workaholics. I often remind them about how important getting rest is. I don't think that they understand that the body needs rest in order to function properly.

I guess some people's bodies just need less rest than others! But I sometimes wonder what the long term effects will be.

The subject of your post has been the description of my life since I became old enough to work at age fourteen. I am now age fifty. Thirty six years in the rat race and I really don't have anything material to show for it other than two kids who are terrific and hopefully won't follow in my footsteps. During High School I worked three jobs because you weren't allowed to work more than thirty hours as a high school student.  I continued to work three jobs during college while maintaining a full load. I owned three business that all worked hand in hand until the market dropped in 2009. I am currently working over eighty hours a week (less this week-end of the year slow down). I really enjoy time off but my family has some tremendous expenses-private school/college/tennis/cars/house. Seems like I'll be going until I die.

I feel like that all the time and am trying to make a more conscious effort to slow down a bit and take better care of myself

Being busy all the time depends on what you are doing.  If you are doing something that you love and enjoy, then it is not unhealthy.  If you are in a stressful anything and it affects you and your health then that is different.
