I prefer liquid but I will not buy anything but Wisk!!!  It's the only soap that does the job!!!!  Gets out even "old" stains!!!!

I use powdered soap that does such a good job that I don't need to use bleach. It is not sold in stores I buy from a distributor. I have been using the soap since 1969. Not only that it does a good job but I am allergic to the ones in the store. I also use their softner product.

Chemical free? GOOD LUCK!! and don't forget that the main thing you need to wash clothes is WATER, which is certainly a chemical!  ;D

In all seriousness folks, there are no good choices for a good laundry detergent or laundry soap available in the general retail world. (And yes there is a difference between a detergent and a soap, significantly so!)

ALL readily available products of this type are pretty much very poor quality, HIGHLY diluted and made to pretty low standards. Intentionally they are designed so that you have to use 5 times the amount that you can get from a concentrated product. Liquids are worse, you pay a LOT for the major ingredient which is water! No matter liquid or powder, the best you can buy is still a pretty poor product.

I will not make any recommendation, but you CAN get decent and highly cost effective products for this need, but doing so will take some effort. First is to find a distributor for home products (Amway type distributors) and the other way is to find a willing rep or distributor of the COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL lines made by the 'biggies' (Proctor and Gamble, Lever Brothers, BASF, and others) and buy from them. The 'commercial' line of products are intended for use in commercial laundries (uniform rental, diaper service, and sports), hospitals, hotel/motel, resorts, and other high use areas. The worst products used in these applications are 1000% superior to even the best products available at retail.

Liquid. It seems easier to use and store, and gives better results.

I use liquid laundry soap because sometimes the dry soap doesnt always come out of the load or mix in the water correctly leaving some on the clothes

I have used liquid laundry detergent for several years until about 3 months ago.  I started using the Tide Pods.  I love them.  You just throw 1 in the wash and you are done.
