I'm very lucky we always get togther with my sister for the holidays. We take turns having it at our houses and we always help with the food. This year my sister has Thanksgiving. So we will go there for the day.

This year we're getting together at my Aunt's house. I will be bringing the one of the desserts. We started "assigning" dishes to people so it wouldn't be a lot for one person to do.  ;)

Thanksgiving.. That's the time of year i look forward to but dread the most.. I like the visit from the family.. But i hate the cooking! You spend all day from 4 am to 12 pm cooking you eat.. Then quick nap! Yes people turkey makes you sleepy! It's a proven fact! My family always sleeps after a thanksgiving meal.. After that.. You spend most of the day cleaning up what you did earlier that morning.. We usually eat on the thanksgiving meal all day.. Because it was cooked most of the day.. We usually have people come over throughout the day.So we keep it out and feast on it whenever..  I thought about downsizing the thanksgiving meals for a while now.. Because big meals just tire a person out but at least you sleep good on that day.. Cuz you get full. Of course if you were the one cooking then eating you will sleep like a baby! Woot thanksgiving they say is usually a time to spend with your family.. But i don't really see that.. Because they come for the meal and then take a hike..haha! It's not like christmas were they stay a while.. Thanksgiving is cool though.. I suppose.. You have some things to give thanks about anyways.. I wonder if we change the traditional meal and do like a bbq outside or a night out dinner.. If that would be better than just spending all day cooking a full blown meal..I do love the pumkin pie though thats the best part (: NOM NOM NOM

I agree with most of what you said, the only thing that is different from me and my family is that when we decide which house is going to be X holiday in, (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) we all cook, the family that is hosting will cook the most and almost always will provide the Turkey, but every family brings a dish.  We make a list and everyone chooses 1 or 2 dishes to bring including desserts.  Every family will bring drinks, soda, juices, beers etc.

That way not 1 person can complained that they spend too much time in the kitchen and we spread everything pretty even.

Now this year an small group is going to NC to my cousin's house.  Unfortunately I cannot go, since Thanks to the Government Shutdown and the fact that I work for a Government Contractor, I had to use all my vacation for the 2 weeks that I was home, and we are NOT getting reimbursed, and I do not get the day after Thanksgiving off, so I will be staying home and between, my Mom, 1 of my cousins and me will be doing an small dinner this year.

Halloween is "around the corner".
There is more marketing for Halloween than in years past.
I don't particularly care for Halloween.

We will probably end up at my parents house and me and my daughter do the cooking and take the burden off my dad. But since we are Jewish and Hanukkah falls on Thanksgiving this year we will also be doing that as well. May put that off till Friday or Sat though because we also have to do my nieces birthday that falls on the 24 and then my oldest has her's on Dec 6th and we wouldn't be back at their house till most likely Christmas break. So it will be A BUSY week for us. But I really can't wait to make my coconut pie we usually only do for the holidays.

Will eat at our neighborhood Thanksgiving Dinner.  A great way to enjoy the meal - only need to prepare one dish.  Someone else does all the cooking  :)

lol we are going to have the whole family come for dinner which makes for a full house. Everyone brings something to eat and drink and we just reminisce about the past.
