Asking for money
« on: October 18, 2013, 06:49:45 am »
I recently started working at Walmart.  There are people standing outside the entrance doors the majority of the days of the week asking for money.  They don't just stand there and let you come to them.  They will verbally ask you to make a donation.  It really bugs me.  I do not even make enough to pay my house payment (and I have no other source of money) so I cannot make a donation to every person standing out there asking for a hand out.  It is every weekend and lately it has been thru the week too.  The ones that bug me the most are the ball teams.  The kids will jump in front of you and ask you for money.  I say buy you own friggin uniform.  Their parents need to pay for their extra activities.  Not me.  The other day a church from a neighboring state (yes from a different state) was standing at our Walmart asking for money.  Most times the people act like you are horrible if you do not give them money.   I am seriously thinking the next time I will respond by saying "yeah I will make a donation if YOU will make a donation toward my next house payment".  Grrr.

Yes, it does get irritating when it seems like someone is at the doorsteps every weekend seeking donations.  I know when my daughter was in activities, I paid for her expenses to keep her from bumming money from family, friends, neighbors and strangers.  I have already purchased 10 items from different fundraisers from nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids since school has started this year.
Have a wonderful day!

Whats wrong with donating a buck?  Or just say "No thanks" and forget about it.  One way or another I'd give some serious consideration as to why the heck that gets you so upset.  Those people are there for a reason with the approval of Walmart I might add.

I agree about it being frustrating.  No one is giving me money if I can't pay my bills.

I hope you feel better now that you have vented.  I would also be incensed in I was always approached for money.  Can the management do anything about it???

Yeah, I'm not a fan of it either, but at least in the case of kids asking for handouts, we can all remember a time when we sold candy bars in front of the grocery store for school.

I have come to understand that all of us go through unfortunate situations. Nowadays, it appears that there are a lot more people going through financial crises due to our economy.  I feel that I try to help every chance I get regardless if I have some spare change or just a few coins in my pocket. I like to put myself in someones shoes as I have been.  I feel children trying to obtain donations for various reasons is honorable because there are so many of their peer who chose illegal ways to obtain money.

I don't know why Walmart allows these people and organizations to pester its customers. It is quite annoying to say the least. >:(

It is very irritating!  I also have 3  grandchildren and I realize how expensive playing a sport can be, but I also hate it when everytime I turn around they are selling something. I buy 1 thing a year from each of them and they know I can't afford anymore.

I agree they are annoying. I give to several charities that I know use my money wisely and I give what I can afford. So I always tell them "not today". But they do make you feel bad. With times what they are they are all hurting too and thus have gotten aggressive. I feel bad for you having to go through it every day when you work. That's tough!!

I don't mind a helping hand or giving some money if I know this is for a good cause and something I believe in, but the oversaturation of some places with people asking for money is discouraging. I often worry how many are really scams.
