I would like to take a test instead of writing a paper.

Take a test. Get it done and over with.

I would rather take a test unless it is an essay test as it takes me a long time to write a paper--I am a little OCD and would keep trying to improve, add to, or reword parts of the essay.  Also, there might be some subjectivity on the teacher's part with a written paper which could affect the grade, whereas in a test the answer is either correct or it isn't.  On the other hand, a skillful writer can fake the extent of his knowledge of the subject with generalities and maybe get a better grade.

I personally think, both has it advantage, sometime write a paper don't have exact right or wrong answer; but take a test is much quicker.

I would rather take a test. It's quicker than having to write a paper.

That will depend on the amount of requirements per each task. Let say it is a 20 page paper. That will be too long. If the test is not as hard, I would take the test. But if the test is super hard and it is only a few pages requirement, then I will go with the paper. Reminds me of a joke my father in law used to tell me many moons ago, he said on the day of finals for one tough English course, the teacher puts a chair on a table and asked the class I want you to write me a persuasive essay, and convincing me that there is no chair on that table, about 5 seconds later a guy turned in his paper while all the other students are brainstorming there ideas some of them were already done with paragraphs. The teacher shook the guy's hand and told him, have a wonderful weekend!!! Do you know what he wrote on the paper??? He simple stated a question- "What chair?" Hahaha!

I would rather eat chocolate! lol.  I don't do well on tests.  Especially if it is something I "have" to get a certain score on.  I don't like papers either because apparently I am too stupid to do that too.  I have written things and submitted for a chance to write articles online and was basically told it just isn't good enough.  I thought that was odd since most of the websites have misspelled words, misused grammar and things that totally don't make sense. lol.  Anyway, at the time it still kind of bothered me.
Ditto on the eating chocolate-- but then that preference beats just about everything!

I tend to be verbose in general (I think a few people in the forums can attest to that), so I'd have to say that I enjoy writing papers much more than taking tests, esp. if the tests are multiple choice or some other method where I cannot state how I came to that answer. I liked that when I went to college, most tests would give partial credit for showing your work; sometimes my thought pattern was correct, but I just miscalculated the final answer (eg forgot to carry a one, etc.) so it was nice to be able to show my work and get a majority of the points on that question even though I got the answer wrong.

Don't know what level of education you are in, or what you are majoring in, but if you like doing the research and writing there are several degree majors that are practically 95% dependent on that form of 'testing'. History, Literature, Political Science, Economics are some of them. In high schools and lower grades I have noticed that most students are so lacking in the English language and grammatical skills that they simple cannot use that format. Sadly the teachers are no better at it than the students so it pretty much mandates T/F and multiple guess testing. ;D

I'd have to say that the natural sciences (esp. if you plan on going into graduate work) tends to also be a lot of writing. I think I did a lot more writing after I graduated from college -- more than the amount of number crunching that I did during that same period.

I would much rather write a paper!!! I actually am pretty good at papers I usually get an A I am not trying to sound conceited I am just shocked!!! I do spend hours and hours on them because I am paranoid plus I want an A. But you can predict a paper better, you can perfect it. With a test you can study and study for hours over tons of material but the one or two part you skip those are on the test and take a 20 point test like don't know 3 or 4 thats it your already doing bad. I wish my grades were not so heavily on tests =( I wish we could do more papers!!! I mean I do a lot of papers but they are worth a lot less unfortunately =(

I would much rather write a paper than take a test and even when I taught senior high, I always gave paper-writing assignments --- no multiple choice tests. M/C tests are a waste of time and test nothing but recall. Even at the GRE level, I think they are useless. Now at the college level my students all know --- all assignments are essay format. Reasoning skills are sadly lacking in the US educational system and all areas (Science, Language Arts, Mathematics, et cetera) are being adversely affected. That is why the USA is falling behind other developed --- and even some developing countries --- in all areas of education, including the sciences  which it once dominated!  :(

I'm not so sure. It really depends on the subject.
There are some tests that I can pass without much studying and some I don't pass no matter how much I study.
And I'm not very good when it comes to writing papers either. The words used are usually super simple and basic and has a lot of repetition also.

I would definately rather take a test. Although I am a great writer and it flows right out once I get started...its super hard to get started and takes me forever. At least with a test I know i have a set amount of time to get it done. I don't get nervous during tests and seem to absorb info pretty quickly so that probably helps too.
