Anyone have complications due to shutdown of government
« on: October 10, 2013, 09:28:06 am »
Luckily I have not been affected. My cousin cant work because he has a government job, and one of my moms friend went to Washington D.C. for a family vacation to visit and now cant go in any buildings like library of congress. I am lucky to not be affected yet at least, anyone have any experiences?

Yes, just went on vacation and you wouldn't believe how many places were closed down due to this. Even bathrooms on the side of the roads!

Yeah, my husband was furloughed 3 days last week, since 1st October (new fiscal year). Then at the weekend he was told he could start back to work on Monday, except on Monday at work he was told that although he could now work, he wouldn't get paid until the government shutdown was over. Then Tuesday he was told whilst he'll still not get paid for his furlough days last week until the shutdown is over, he would now get this weeks pay as usual. It's sure been a rollercoaster, and the ride isn't even over yet!

Great question!! I was wondering this myself.  It's unfair that government workers' pay suffers from something that's not their fault but let's just hope that a compromise is reached soon and the shut down lifted.

Government workers aren't suffering.  They're applying for unemployment compensation in droves and they'll get paid for not working when they go back.  Seems to me they're doing rather well for themselves and they already get paid more than private sector workers.  Now they get double.

Really it's too bad that we are the ones suffering BECAUSE THE TRAITOR IS A CHILD WHO APPARENTLY HAS LOST HIS BINKY!!!!!  He should stop stomping his foot like a 2yr. old and NEGOTIATE with OUR REPRESENTATIVES!!!!  AFTER ALL, WE PAY THEIR SALARIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THEREFORE, WE ARE THE BOSSES - NOT THE TRAITOR, COMMUNIST AT THE HELM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw on the news today, all the government workers who are now collecting unemployment checks will have to pay the entire amount back when they are able to return to work.

Not yet, but it looks like it might happen. Most of our income is from our social security. Which we worked and paid into for a long time. Now it looks like they will be cutting our medicare and we pay for it too, I think we need to clean out most of congress and start over, As for the pres. all i can say is what president we don't have one. We have a dictator.

It has not affected me or my family, I do feel bad for those that it does affect. I am just frustrated that it is shut down over something so silly. I really don't care about the Affordable insurance act, I already have insurance and have been paying for it for years now, so nothing changes for me. I wish more people would truly read and see how/if it even affects them, and stop complaining about things that don't affect them.

I don't work for the government, but there are many trail pathways I like to use, especially during the weekend that were impacted. I still chose on a couple occasions to still go through, but parking is a nightmare as everyone is parking outside.

I am not affected by this shutdown. However, I know a young man who is out of work due to this and he is the father of 2 young children. I wish this would get resolved soon. I hate watching the news lately because of them showing all the disappointing effects this shutdown has caused !!

No and I hope and pray I won't.  I am on disability and if there is any affect on that I don't know what I would do.   I think the whole thing is stupid and the people in control like the President and Congress should have their money stopped first. That isn't the way it works though - the big guy making the big bucks continue to get their money while the little guy gets screwed.
