I agree, it depends on the kid. Lots of 13 year olds babysit. Also several hours shouldn't include overnight IMO.

I believe that a child can be left home alone at the age of 13 as long as he or she does nothing bad and follows the rules you have set for him or her.  I have known people who left their young children at home alone, but I believe that a 13 year old has a certain maturity level that makes them ideal for staying at home by themselves.

Yes I certainly do think a 13 year old boy should be old enough to be at home alone for several hours but then only someone who know's that kid could say that because its not the age so much as the maturity level and trustworthiness of the person.  And their understanding of the rules that govern that time they are at home alone.

Yes, unless he has already done something that means you can't trust him. My daughter started babysitting others when she was 12.

If he is mature enough, I think 13 years old should def be old enough to stay home alone for a while but i know some 13 year olds that would do some stupid stuff if they stayed home alone!

It all depends on his maturity level.

I left my son at 13 with his brother who was ten  I sgartedto leav them for about an hour.  thenstarted to increas the hours  also depends on maturity

I guess it depends on him....do you trust him.  It's always better to have more than one around to help with accountibilities....

I believe so if: the child is mature enough not to have friends come over and if there is a trusting neighbor that will be home just incase the child needed something.

I wouldn't leave him for more than 6 hours or so and not at night. I'd also make sure he had several contact numbers. I'm sure I worry too much but I always think it's better to be safe than sorry. After a while if that works out you can extend everything to longer periods and evening hours.

Yes, I think he is old enough to be home alone for several hours. My children were 9 and 13 and stayed home alone while I was at work. Just give him some rules to follow and make sure he is mature enough to follow these rules. I think he should be. Give it a try and make sure that he feels ok about being alone.
