There are certain things that everybody notices the price of when they go up. Two are stamps and gas. My first reaction to the stamp increase is "oh no, not again!" but after I think about it for a while, it doesn't bother me so much. After all, sending a birthday card all the way across the U.S. to CA from NJ for 49 cents doesn't sound all that bad, and it is going for a good cause - helping the USPS keep going even though nobody is using it to pay bills any more. All the postal carriers do these days is carry junk advertising mostly, but at least that keeps them employed.

So - I heard postage was increasing to $.49 next year
Yeah, you hear right. I feel like it will be a 50cent piece soon enough. Can't believe it costs that much to send a letter. I guess the trend is to do everything online where your every move can be tracked by the government. I will still use the mail to send my bills. I won't do online bill pay. I don't have a smartphone either. I do support the US Mail. Remember the Pony Express!

Its only a small three cent increase no biggie. They have to try to make some money some way but i think they could do it better in other ways like some gas stations have done to increase business

If you think your postal mail isn't potentially being tracked by the government, you may want to think again.

Discontinue the USPS service. Communicate with your loved one via email or phone. Paying for postage it is no guaratee they are going to get the letter.

It is nice to get cards and handwritten letters in the mail every once in a while. When I travel internationally, I still send my daughter and parents postcards from the places I visit.

I think the USPS still has a purpose, and for small items, it is still cheapest way to send things.

That's kind of cute actually. I sell trading cards, and because the envelopes aren't machinable with the contents inside, there's a .20 charge on top :D

The post office is so indebted that it will probably take a stamp price of $1.45 to get it back on track. I`m willing to pay it for the convenience

A percentage of people whine every time the cost of postage increases just like....

A percentage of people whine about the current president every 4 years when it's time to vote.

I won't be one of them.  I respect and appreciate how hard postal employees work because I did that job earlier in my life.
Have a great day!

I agree with you very much. It is nice to receive a postcard from someone on vacation or to send one out while you are on vacation. People call it snail mail but that's ok. There are choices as how to send it if you need it to get somewhere quickly. And also USPS is still the cheaper way to send something.

Postage on everything is rising all the time. I would think with so much internet shopping that the post office would be doing better. Oh well I guess we will have top pay it if we want things sent.
