Halloween safety?

How many are NOT taking your kids out treat or treating this year? I willl only take my grandchildren to my relatives houses. It is getting so scarey thinking what people do to harm or kill children with poison candy, razor blades etc. I will not allow my children to go anywhere without me or to any houses we dare not derinitely sure of the people. Please have a safe Halloween! Watch your children and your pets!

Yes, we're getting to the point where we will not take our children out trick or treating. Historically we always check the candies, partly because my youngest son has a big peanut allergy and he doesn't yet know which candies are good/bad. We also partly check it for the reasons you've already started. Sad times eh?

My 18 year old takes her little sister over to one of her friends house(the 18 year olds friend) because she does some baby sitting for the neighborhood kids and knows knows the families and will take them out while the parents man the house. This way they have two who are at least 17 to be in charge of the younger ones. My 11 year old has come home the last two years with so much candy... but they have also been told that they are not to touch a single piece of candy until their father and I have looked at it.

13 & 15 years ago I only took my children trick or treating to homes I knew the owners of.  Granted I had grown up in that neighborhood and new just about everyone as it was.  We moved out of the neighborhood and for a couple of years did trick our treating in the new neighborhood.  Kid's rode in the back of the SUV with the tailgate down and were snatching up full sized candy bars.  Than came along #3 and we ended up in the old original neighborhood.  Houses used to leave there porch light on if they were participating in the towns trick or treat program.   Nearly all the houses had there lights off.  So stopping at the houses we knew people was a short night of trick or treating as I no longer new many people.  Last year we went to a go Kart track across the street from our apartment.  The church we've become involved with rents the place.  They set up activities for the kids and it's awesome.  I figure my big kids will help with it this year and my youngest will run around with the friends she's made while I make my rounds up to the chili booth.

I take my daughter out trick or treating, but not in my neighborhood anymore. I still think my neighborhood is generally safe at night, but I think there are better places elsewhere, especially a mall not too far away that provides a safe haven environment.

The only houses I take my children too are my neighbors houses on my actual street. I take my kids to the mall and they go store to store trick r treating. Thats one of the best ways to me and it is really fun seeing all the kids enjoying them selves.

My kids only go to the neighbors houses, so I think it is Ok. But it is scary, that you mentioned poison candy

i don't have any little ones to take out,,,,,,  but i wish safety for everyone else   I always treat for halloween and never give anything that would  choke little ones or harm anyone.

M&Ms for small frys,,,,  and candy bars for the bigger ones.  and we usually have about 500 kids every year.   I so love the little ones in their costumes.  they are so cute.

luckly our area is pretty safe.  we haven't had any issues  since i have lived here (25yrs).

500 kids??? That sounds awesome! It's like a Comic Con right down your road!

Just to be on the safe side, I'm going to plan a friendly costume party, for my kids. I generally don't celebrate Halloween, but I don't want to deprive my kids of their childhood. We will celebrate safely in our own way.

Soo.....you decided to hand-out trick or treats for the costumed festival marchers in your neighborhood.  From the food information, the treats must be safe too; for instance, handing-out chocolaty anything and other highly-sensitive ingredients you inadvertently handed-out a trick, poison.    have a safe bewitching hour--I wish goodluck, hope you experience something special, save yourself from awkward moments, hope you don't have ta wrestle any unruly spirits.

i have never had a problem and i do go out in groups around my neighborhood. always have .. always will. i dont know what u all are talking about with the razor blades ect. i just think that's a lame excuse and that you're not letting your children enjoy their childhood as they should.

the local malls usually have activities and fortunately we live in a decent neighborhood with people we have know for years so hopefully they will have another good halloween
