Silver Member = 1000 to 1999 posts
Gold Member = 2000 to 3999 posts
Platinum Member = 4000 + posts

It does have to do with post count as others have said. It has no real meaning or value though.

I guess it's just a fun way to organize members into categories according to how many posts they've made in the forum. It may not have meaning, but I believe it adds to the fun, variety and spice of the site.  Some people, more competitive ones, might set goals for themselves that involve the different member levels.  Any feature that makes people want to be a member of FC is worth having.

I just recently had this question as well, I have learned it has to do with the amount of post you have made since joining.. which lead to me my next question of do you get some sort of bonus or something to which i haven't conclusively found an answer but it looks like a no just a status symbol i guess... Still cool though!
