Two of my friends and I are going to a single's meeting tonight, and I really want to back out. :crybaby2: One of my friends called and she feels the same way, but we are determined to get thru this. We usually just hang out together but know we should get out and mingle, so does anybody have any advice on how to get thru this with grace?  :dontknow:

The best way to handle it is meet your friends there and then you can leave when you want too. Did it mumerous times. Of course i had my own car. I would never make a date with someone i did not know well and meet him and if i did not like the way things were going i would just excuse myself and leave.  Did not want everyone knowing where i lived.

Just don't go.  There is nothing wrong with being single.  Just be honest and say you really don't want to go.

I agree with countrygirl - if you really don't want to go, be honest and back out.  If you want to support your friend who does want to go, but doesn't want to go alone, then at the meeting just be honest with the people there and let them know you only came to support your friend.

If you do decide to go, keep an open mind.  There should be no expectation to "hook up" at these type of meetings.  Maybe you'll find some interesting people to strike up a conversation with.

I tried going to various singles gatherings.  The ones I went to were either "bar/frat house" mentality where people were only interested in "hooking up", or very few people showed and the age/background were so diverse of those who did - there was very little anyone had in common.  Needless to say, I tended not to stick around very long.

Perhaps you'll have a better experience if you go and meet some nice people.

Think of it as a social gathering, like when you to a bar and you know there is going to be men that will be attracted to you and want to get to know. Like in a bar there is always a nutter butter (a guy that his persona just screams go away please). LOL You never know you might meet your future husband. Just keep a open mind. :D

Well me and my friends went to the single's meeting and there were about 140 people there. It actually went GREAT  and met quite a few people and even saw a old friend.
Really glad  :D I went.
One of my friends and me plan on going back and even going to some of the other activities they have - like a sunday outing on the lake in a catamaran. Yeah! ;D
