I really don't have any experience with children that age but I would try to put a gate in other door ways so that they stay in one room.  The fussing baby might be teething or something.  I hope that this helps.

my daughter has a 22mn old and yes getting into everything .she said he will only sit still for sesame street.try akids tv show like that. also she takes him to the park but would be a huge hassle with an 1 month old .if babysitting you can give the kids back to the parents that is good.

You will survive!  The 18 month old is doing his job, getting into everything to learn about it.  It gets worse as they can climb and run!   LOL  I put up gates everywhere, baby proof and then sort of let them go.    The one month old, just doesn't know what kind of schedule she wants yet.  Sometimes at that age they like it if you will swaddle (wrap tightly in a blanket) them.  Then they seem to feel more secure.  Hope this helps a little.  I have been  taking care of a 2 year old and a 3 year old for 2 years (Since the 2 year old was born) because of health problems and military service with their folks.  I also don't bother cleaning up constantly after the 18 month old, you would kill yourself.  I do sometimes put on the timer and we play how many toys can get put away in say 3 to 5 minutes.     We also play race, and I tell her ready set go, she runs and runs and runs!.  If you can take them to a park and let the older one run it seems to help!
