I've nieces that are constantly included in their mobile devices and portable game devices. I noticed the change gradually as they became more addicted, less socialable and very bratty.  I wish I could say more to them, but they're not exactly my kids either.

davidh121 brings up a good point.  Why is it that when kids these days are tuned in (more than necessary) they become bratty?  The attitude in children thinking they are entitled these days rubs me the wrong way.  So what is it about being connected that turns a kid into being disrespectful, rude and no common sense?

Children now a days are always playing games on devices instead of studying. Too much  high technology is not good anymore. Its easy for them to expose in some things that's not appropriate with there age.

Here is my strategy- I have a time limit for the week.  The timer starts and stops when he starts and stops.  He can use it in one day or spread it through the week, I dont care.  That is how much time you have.  AND I always follow through with consequences.  Always!  If the rule is come for dinner or you will lose the video game until next week, that is EXACTLY what happens.  I do not threaten consequences I can't do.

cashrose, if your kids aren't paying attention to you and doing the things you tell them to do, there's a simple solution.  Walk right in their rooms and TAKE the iPads/Kindles AWAY until they DO listen to you.  Just let them all know they'll get their toys back when they get done doing what has to be done.  It's true, the kids get "involved" on all the new technology and lose track of time.  It's up to you to make them pay attention.
thanked you BlackSheepNY! I know that I'll get some kind of helpfull comments. I always did that but quest
who they asked to? Their dad and he always gave it back to them. :BangHead: :BangHead:

It crazy how hooked kids are on technology now a days. I mean I know it is good in some ways but thats all kids want to do anymore. I used to work at a daycare with kids from newborn to 5th grade and some of my 6 yr olds has smartphones, their own laptops, their own tablets. Its crazy.

I don't think it's being connected that makes them bratty but as you said their sense of entitlement, which is in large part the parent's fault.  Kids are so blessed these days and don't even realize it so I force mine to realize it by taking away privileges whenever I see a need to do it.

I have a time limit they can be on them for, then they are put away and turned off, or they are mine.   If they are at a friend's and cannot pick up their phone, then they do not have a phone and or not allowed at that friend's.  Yes, they push, but I'm the parent....THESE are the rules.  You don't like, you don't have to have the phone, ipad etc. at all.  If your child's school says certain items are not allowed, then those items  don't go to school.  I have been in the office and had parents giving the clerks the riot act, when they knew the items were banned from school.

I also do not worry about if my kids like me or not, or if everyone else is doing it or not.  They all go through not liking you, no matter what you do.  You are teaching them a very bad lesson if they always do want they want despite what you say.  I give them limits and that's it, cross the line and pay the consequences.  and YES you do have to follow through with what you say.  The younger you start the easier it is.

I have a 4yr old that loves electronics and sometimes the only way I can get her to do what I ask is to tell her that she cant play on any of them for a whole day and then she snaps too sometimes
