Restaurants banning kids
« on: August 11, 2013, 02:55:30 pm »
I have seen several articles lately about restaurants banning children under a certain age, or after a certain time of day. What are your thoughts on this?

I can see both sides of this as a good thing and a bad thing...
Some people not all.. Do not know how to control their children at restraunts.
And this is probably the reason they have came up with that.So people can enjoy
the restraunt in peace.

On the other hand Some parents enjoy taking their kids to restraunts
and/or they are just tired, got home from work and is not looking to cook.
That will put a hurt on the parents because that means now
They will be forced to find a babysitter to watch their kids.
Sometimes that is not always easy and on that note who really
wants to leave their kids with someone else in this day and age?
Not me that's for sure unless it's family..

personally i think that's a bit harsh.

I can see both sides of it. familys with young kids should not take them out late in the evening as they are tired and cranky and should be in bed.  :dontknow:And i know that sometimes it is the only way you are going to be able to go out and eat, But also so many people would like to have a nice quite dinner too and how can you with little ones crying and screaming. So take the kids where they can play like mcdonalds But i have seen them bring them into bars and  just turn them loose or ignore them and it is not right.

I don't think that makes for good business and I do believe parents should be the ones who decide if their children go to a restaurant or not.

I have mixed feelings about that.  If your kids are well behaved, of course they should be welcomed in any restaurant.  However, this weekend my husband and I went to Logan's for a steak dinner on Friday night about 6 pm.  There was a family with 3 kids, all under about 7.  These kids literally ran around the restaurant yelling, laughing, and being loud.  All the time the parents sat talking to each other and not paying attention or correcting their kids.  I love kids, I had 2 of my own, but I wanted a nice dinner, with little noise.  If I wanted to hear kids yelling I would have gone to Chucky Cheese.,

??? Yes, I too can see both sides.  Sometimes it is hard to have a romantic dinner or a enjoyable dinner if there is a child that is disruptive.  I had two sons so don't get me wrong, the way to teach a child how to act in certain settings is to take them to that setting.  But I see parents not even trying to do anything with a child that is raising heck in a restaurant and it doesn't seem fair to the other folks paying for a dinner they hoped to enjoy.

If they are being bad or disruptive kick them out.  Some parents have no control over their kids.  Why do they take them to upscale 5 star restaurants anyway?  If you want to enjoy a nice dinner great find a babysitter.  Take them to Denny's where it's more acceptable to run amock.

it is not all restaurants so i do not see what the big deal is. There are probably plenty of other places to take kids out to eat. Happy hour is probably a part of some these establishments' features.

As someone who has worked in a restaurant, I too, can see both sides.

I think there should be family sections and quiet (no kids) sections. Families want a family night out and couples want a quiet, romantic dinner.

Tis a strange world we live in where kids can be banned and other minoritys would take you to court in a heart beat.  Personaly I think if I saw a young couple with kids being banned from a resturant I was eating at I would probably get up and leave.  Guess some folks just cannot figure out that the kids are our future and if we mistreat them while they grow and mature.  How the heck do you think they are gonna treat us when they grow up.

That all depends on the restaurant. Most restaurants I have been to have no problems with kids. And if one does not allow kids, I just don't go there. My money is green like everyone else's, so I can go anywhere I want.

I see nothing wrong with it. Restaurants are businesses and as such they try to please their customers... If this is a 5-star restaurant and most of the customers would be annoyed at kids crying or running around the place, then I can see why they may impose such a stricture. It's similar to restaurants requiring men to wear at least a sports coat or a shirt and tie. I mean family restaurants won't impose a rule such as this since their customer base has children. It isn't like this is some national law nor is the restaurant forcing people to go to that establishment; if a family with young children can't get a babysitter for that evening, then they just won't go to that restaurant.

Not only that, but if the kid is running around the place and gets hurt, then the restaurant now has a lawsuit on their hands. It's not like the manager can beg the parents control their children. As previously mentioned, I've worked in restaurants for about 7 years and I've seen kids LITERALLY running around tables, throwing fits and much more destruction. Some would say that the restaurant has the "right to refuse service to anyone", but that usually isn't the case. There are so many restaurants that are hurting (and ObamaCare is going to hurt them even more) and asking people to leave because their kids are annoying isn't justifiable to corporate office.

Bottom line: I don't think that is right to restaurants should be allowed to
