I'm sorry for your loss! I know how attached you must've felt because 2 years ago my cat died whenever I was on a school trip.  :'[  He had been with us for 5 years, as well.

You most certainly are not alone. Our pets are family members, and the loss is excruciating.

Please know you did the best thing for Paz. Animals don't have the ability to comprehend the pain, terror and confusion of long, drawn out medical treatments or extended illnesses. By keeping your cat from unnecessary suffering you were being a loving and responsible owner. I'm sure you cat was very much loved and spoiled during the five years he was with you.

No you are not alone in the way you feel about your cat. But for me I would feel the loss if something happened to my beautiful Black Lab. What might help though is to replace the cat soon. If you have a shelter where you live they are usually the best routes. We are in the ATL area and my 18 year old volenteers with Rescue Cats. They are one of the few places that does not put their cats down after a certain amount of time. Yes they won't take any more if they reach compasity and don't have any foster houses available but they average three to five adoptions every Saturday when they are in the Petsmart.

I am a cat lover like you.  I am saddened to hear this about your beloved cat.  Cats that you raise become a part of the family, so it is natural for you to feel that you have lost one of your children.  I know that you will get past this.

I'm sorry for your loss. I would be the same way. My male and female kitty feel like my babies just as much as my daughter does. I guess the longer you have them the more attached you become to them.

my cat was 17 and we had to put her down too. she was bleeding from the nose and not eating. vet didnt know what was wrong with her.

I am so sorry for your lost. I had a frog that I had for a really long time and when he  died I cried my eyes. I understand your pain.

Unless you had a pet and lost them, you'll never understand what it's like.  My friends would sorta get mad at us when we couldn't stay a few extra hours because we had to feed the dog or let her out.  A few years ago they finally got a dog and every few times we see them, they will apologize cause they didn't understand how much you love your dog and how you don't just leave them alone.

Im sorry about your loss. You are definitely not alone. I also lost my dog I had for 10 years to a pitbull we had for only about 8 months. I had to have my dog put down. Yes I still have the pitbull and she is great with everyone BUT other females(dogs or cats). Any males are great with her. She just cant seem to take to any females and dont know why. She has been fixed also. Thought that MIGHT be one reason but not sure. This pitbull is now my baby and yes... animals are more like our kids than just pets. Sending prayers your way and hope all wil be ok. Your cat will be in your heart forever so dont forget that. Just try to remember all the FUN times with your baby.

I am so sorry about your cat. Any pet truly becomes part of the family. Several years ago I had to put my collie to sleep because she developed a tumor on her pancreas and because of her age any surgery would have been dangerous. The greatest comfort I found was knowing that putting an end to her pain was my last gift of love to her.

You are most certainly not alone in this. I'm sorry for your loss. It kills me when I lose a pet, because for me they are so much more than that. I've had two dogs that got really ill and we had to help them pass on so they wouldn't continue to suffer. I still miss them, and every other one I've ever shared my life with no matter how briefly.

You are not alone. I love my dog and if something would have to happen to him, my family would be devastated also. So don't feel bad that you loved your cat like one of your family, he/she was.
