I remember having surgery when I was 14 to get all 4 of mine removed at the same time. Boy I was in so much pain for a couple weeks.

I was one of the lucky few who never got wisdom teeth.  For me, this was a blessing, as I had inherited my father's small jaw, and my mother's large teeth.  My mouth couldn't hold the teeth it already had.

Before anyone thinks I'm that lucky for not having wisdom teeth, to fix my already crowded mouth, I had 13 teeth pulled (including 4 permanent bicuspids - so I only have 24 teeth vs the standard 28) and one tooth surgically uncovered (an cainine that decided to grow sideways into my front incisor).  After all that came the braces.  I feel I've more than paid my dues to the dental community.   ;D

Growing wisdom teeth is a real worst thing. I have seen my friend struggling badly with pain when he got them. I feel that the best thing is to pull them out surgically. I think that would definitely be less painful than letting them grow naturally. You can get details about wisdom teeth extraction Rockville MD from the link.

How can a tooth be labeled wise all it does is grow inside your mouth?

I think they are nicknamed "wisdom" because they emerge after childhood, indicating one would have acquired some wisdom, but realistically, they have nothing to do with this.

Wisdom teeth is basically a teeth that pops out when you get older... Hence it's called wisdom teeth... The older you get the more it grows (meaning you become wiser when you get old)... In some cases you don't need to extract them if they erupted normally (probably porvide crowding in your teeth tho).. But if it's partially erupted you have to remove them or complications will happen later on... Because it will be prone to trap food, cyst, or your wisdom teeth breaking out to your molars

When I turned 39, my wisdom tooth (I only have ONE Thank God) just started breaking skin. Therefore I was teething like a brand new baby  :o . It took two years for it to finally grow half way. I even had the tooth next to it extracted. It moved over a touch but still won't come out all the way. For the last two years it would come up, go down, come up, go down. What a pain in the butt! A wisdom tooth is the mother of ALL the teeth in your mouth, hence the "Wisdom" name. The roots are ridiculously long and I have been told very painful post extraction. I won't extract mine unless I'm in pain, which I am not!

Mine became abscessed. I have never had a cavity and rarely visited the dentist. They were the first toothache I ever had. Kept me awake all night and saw the first dentist who would see me the next morning.

Mines are twisted (head to the side) if they start trying to come they do not have the space and will push all other ones out of the way.  My Girls did not have enough space on their mouth for it and they have to get them out after braces come off.  My husband's were out and the got black and were not doing anything good for his mouth so he had them pulled.  I guess it all depends on the person.

Mine too, they are twisted and will need to be remove if they ever decide to show up.  AT 45 they have it and I hope they do not but I will see.  My 2 girls had braces and they need them removed.  My oldest had them already extracted in two waves, and she is more happy for it now.  My youngest still needs to wait a few more months for them to drop before getting them out.  Neither one of them has room in their mouth for more teeth.

My husband's came out years ago and he was fine with them, until one of them started hurting, went to the dentist and the roots were black and getting worse, so he had his 4 wisdom teeth removed and says he feels more better now for it.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed at one time when I was 12 years old.  I had to have it done before I got my braces as I had a small mouth and there wouldn't have been enough room.

Having my wisdom teeth extracted was the second most painful operation I have ever had (kidney stones were the worst). I was put under anesthesia for five hours and came to at five and a half hours with the dentist chiseling away at my mouth.  I have broken ribs, my nose, my foot and My wrist. I had over one hundred and seventy stitches put in my leg after an auto accident.  I am always rolling my ankles and have dislocated my thumbs several times. All of these injuries were a walk in the park when compared to the pain I got from having my wisdom teeth taken out!

I had to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth out cuz they were starting to impact the other teeth. I can't remember if I have a lot of pain though. When I had braces and that hurt but that was before I had the wisdom teeth out.
