How often do you talk to your Parents?
« on: July 17, 2013, 05:03:08 pm »
I was just talking to my mom and I visited with my dad earlier today, so I got to thinking, how often do you normally see or talk to your parents?

Unfortunately, I can't talk to my parents. My father died when I was 2 from brain cancer at the age of 31 and my mother passed from a massive heart attack when I was 37.  My grandmother died at the age of 83, when I was 31.  My grandfather passed before I was born.  It is unfortunate, but it is a part of life. :angel12: :angel12: :angel12: :angel12:

My Dad was a race car driver and died on the track when I was 3 and my Mom has been gone for 18 years from an aneurism.

Sadly my dad passed away on Nov 26, 2001 from congestive heart failure and my mother passed away on June 13, 2003 from acute lymphoma.

My dad was 78 when he passed away and my mother was 82.

Well my parents are not together but I talk to my mom and step dad(which is who I call DAD) almost everyday, since I became ill in January (my condition got worse) I try to see them when my sister takes me to doctors or shopping.  As for the man who fathered me we talk usually once a year when he calls me on my birthday(which is at the last Sunday of this month) This year we have spoke more than normal and he did help me with my medication expense last month.  It is more him than mean I try like today no answer he is retired he got out of paying child support and he is better off than my mother he was suppose to pay something to her when he retired but she won't take him to court for it, a headache she doesn't need.  Like I told my dad any one can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad! I don't get to see him because he lives in California and I live in Missouri he says he's going to come and see us (siblings all live here)but he always promises but never goes through with it.  I want my father to be a part of my life and I have tried for years now his health is going down hill and i am afraid of not seeing him before he dies or I die which ever comes first.  Two years ago I waited all day for him to call me on my birthday I even cried when he didn't he put it one facebook like I visit facebook everyday( I don't have time for that)I can't remember last year but I am hoping for a call this year.

I talk and see my mom and dad everyday. Mainly because I'm still living with them :) But even if I weren't I'm pretty sure I'd still talk to them all the time, especially my mom.

I try to call my mother every day to check in with her.  I use to talk to her once or twice a week but since we almost lost her back in March, I believe the Lord has given me extra chances to tell her how much I love her so I call her every day.  I also call my 90 year old grandmother every night before I go to bed to see how her day was and to tell her I love her.  I don't get to visit with my Granny very often because she lives so far away.  My dad is a different story, though.  Lord forgive me, but I think I could go the rest of my life without talking to him again.  The six weeks we were together while Mom was in the hospital brought back too many horrible childhood memories that I had buried deep.  Since it is apparent that he has not and never will change, my heart is stone cold towards him.
Have a wonderful day!

I am very sad to hear that so many have lost their parents, but on the other hand I am happy to hear that most of us that still are Blessed with a parent of some sort, does take the time to check in with them, I thing we all need that connection.

I don't see my parents as often as I may like because they are 2 1/2 hours away. But I do talk to them at least every other night. Just to see how they are doing mostly.

I talk to my mom about 3-6 times a month. Usually see her at least once a month. We get along really well and talk a lot when we get together. My dad I usually talk to on special days and see him about 3-6 times a year. I have a hard time talking to him because he always sounds really disinterested in what I am talking about or pokes fun at the things that are serious in my life. He has a way of making me feel like I don't want to reveal anything too personal or he will criticize me for my choices. He has been getting better about it since he married his 2nd wife who is a wonderful woman but I still don't feel completely comfortable revealing my real passions, hopes and dreams to him.

I talk to my Mama everyday and see her several times a week. She is 79 and still going strong. I lost my wonderful Daddy 8 years ago to cancer, and oh how I wish I could talk to him one more time. I still miss him. I feel sorry for kids growing up now a days,  a lot of them don't have 2 parents in their lives. Many are being raised by grandparents, times they are a changing.

I try to speak with my parents at least once a day because I don't want to regret not spending time with them when they leave.
