Problem with typing in capcha for Radio Loyalty
« on: July 12, 2013, 12:31:12 am »
For the last couple of weeks, I've had problems typing in the capchas for Radio Loyalty.  I have no problem reading them and knowing what to type, but when I enter the letters in, the keyboard doesn't response correctly.  Letters are skipped, the space bar doesn't respond.  I've gotten in the practice of double checking most every key stroke.

At first I thought that my keyboard needed to be cleaned and spent some time researching what to do to clean the keyboard without taking the buttons off -- answer:  use compressed air to blow out the dust and chaff.  Haven't done that yet, because I also read that I should try a different a browser because  sometimes Firefox has this keyboard problem.

I  tried IE -- same problem.  I tried Chrome and the problem wasn't present.  Went back to Firefox and the problem persisted with Radio Loyalty.

I'm not having a problem typing this post with Firefox and I don't seem to have the problem with other sites.

Has anyone noticed having the same problem?  Is there a solution other than changing browsers?

RadioLoyalty has scripts running in the background, so if your computer is short of memory or slow it will result in the symptoms you indicate. Make sure you don't have other things running to tax your computer.

I have lots of stuff competing with RL running on my computer.  Couldn't justify running RL by itself.

I know that RL need more than 1 gig ram to run efficiently, but I'm running it on my laptop with 8 gig.  I have noticed that I am frequently running above 50% cpu usage when I running RL and games.  But it's not so high when I run other PTC sites, FC offers and RL.  Might shift to Chrome for RL and see whether things improve overall.

Wonder if you could run just Radio in Chrome and everything else in another window like IE?  Maybe that would solve problem.  I know lately IE is giving me all kinds of problems, but it easier to use because this old dog does not like new tricks. LOL  may have to learn new tricks. God Bless

I've been running RL on Chrome and one game on Chrome and I haven't had too many problems with this.   Occasionally Adobe Flash crashes and then everything has to be refreshed.

But the good thing is that I'm not having a problem with typing in Chrome that I had with IE and Firefox.

I run other sites (that don't require much typing) in Firefox. So far, so good.

I can't say that I've had that problem and I use Firefox ALL of the time because any other browser is just inferior.  I was going to suggest that maybe it is your keyboard.  I think that might explain why you're having problems with any browser.  However, I tried to listen to Radio Loyalty today and had a few problems myself.  None of the stations I wanted to listen to actually filled in and I never did get to hear any music.  Well, I take that back.  I did get the chance ONCE and was able to get credited a penny.  After that, I couldn't get it to work but it wasn't because of the captchas.

I have generally used Firefox for most of my PTC sites and prefer it to Ie because after looking at an ad, Firefox brings me back to where I was in the list.  IE always takes me to the top of the page and I have to scroll down to find where I was in the list.

The problem I had with Firefox and the RL captcha typing occurred only in the last week or so. IE wasn't any better, but Chrome has been working just fine.  I've also started using Chrome on my other PTC sites and have been happy with the way it handles a refresh.

I need a class on my computer?  How do you tell if other things are taxing your computer?

This has happened to me for awhile now. I always have problems typing in the captcha. I have to hit each letter lyk 3 or 4 times before it will type. It gets annoying but Im used to it.

That's because it's well known that Chrome is faster.

I need a class on my computer?  How do you tell if other things are taxing your computer?

I look at the Windows Task Manager.  Click Ctr/Alt/Del and a window will come up.  If you have an older computer with XL, the Task Manage will come up directly.

If you have a newer computer with Windows 7 or later, a screen will come up with several options, one of which is "Start Task Manager".  Click that to see the Windows Task Manager.

The Performance tab will show you CPU usage and memory being used; below the graphs are figures for how much memory you have and what is used.  Most of this is g(r)eek to me, but when cpu usuage approaches 80%+ and memory usuage is too high, performance suffers.

The Applications tab shows you what apps you have running.

But most interesting is the  Processes tab.  This shows you all the programs/processes that are working to run your computer.  It comes up in alphabetic order, but you can click on the 'CPU' column to sort them in CPU usage or on the 'Memory' column to see which processes are using memory.  You may have to click twice to get the list in descending order.

If you see a process name that you don't know what it is, try googling it.  It's how I've figured out what some things are and whether they should be there or not.

If your computer is running slow and you haven't cleared your cookies and temp files recently, clearing them may improve your PC performance.  I use CClearer (free version).  It clears all my browsers caches and wastebasket at once -- takes a minute or so to run.

You do need adequate working memory (RAM) to run RL.  I can barely use it on my desktop  with 1.25 gig of ram.  CPU usage is usually at or near 100%. Not a good thing for the PC.   Now I run RL on my laptop (8 Gig ram) with Chrome and it's working well. CPU usage is about 10-20% with RL running alone.  If I'm running games that use Adobe flash, the CPU usage is in the 50-70% range.  That taxes the laptop and occasionally Adobe Flash crashes.
