How do you feel about the "scandal" with Paula Deen?  She admitted to using racially insensitive language, and was released from her contract (i.e. fired) from the Food Network.

I am not completely in the loop and have heard a lot from second hand sources.  From what I had heard she was in court, under oath, and asked if she had ever used the 'N' word.  She answered to the affirmative.  I apologize if I am over simplifying this but it seems that this has gotten blown out of proportion.  If this is the case then every southerner and rapper should also lose endorsements and their jobs because they have used that word as well.  I think that this word is truly offensive, regardless of who uses it, and not one that I would choose to use in my conversations with others. But I think that she is being destroyed for a word that rappers use in every day language.

I think it is totally unfair!  I don't think there is anyone alive that has gone all their lives without doing or saying something that would be detrimental to others no matter what race or creed they are!  Why is Paula Deen singled out??? >:(

Because she is well known and she has money and someone who doesn't have money wants hers.  It's funny cause they keep telling us we live in the land of the free and have freedom of speech.  But we only have freedom of speech if it doesn't "offend" someone else.  Then you are told to shut up and the person offended can sue you for millions.

If this was a problem then why did this person wait 30 plus years to say something?  And you are right, there isn't a person alive who hasn't used a racial slur at some point in their lifetime....including the black person who is causing all this fuss.  No way she has never used a slur to describe Paula Dean.  And if I hated someone and they treated me badly I wouldn't continue to work for them.  Just sayin.

I think it has been over killed. Something she said over 27 years ago. Let  it go.  If she can be sued, then it is time to sue the so called rappers.

I think all this "political correctness" bull is just going way overboard.  The whole thing is blown out of control.  I'm sure just about every adult or teen from the south has used that word at least once in their life.
They are really making way too much of this whole situation.

I think when people make such a big deal about an error in judgment and it ends up in the media it stifles conversation about racism for the general public because people don't want to be labeled "racist" for expressing their views. But without conversation, it's difficult to really get past real ignorance about racism.

This lawsuit has never been about the N-word,” Jackson told CNN through her lawyer Matthew Billips. “It is to address Ms. Deen’s patterns of disrespect and degradation of people that she deems to be inferior.

I may be a white woman, but I could no longer tolerate her abuse of power as a business owner, nor her condonation of Mr. Hier’s despicable behavior on a day-to-day basis. I am what I am, and I am a human being that cares about all races, and that is why I feel it is important to be the voice for those who are too afraid to use theirs.”

I have never been a fan of Paula Dean.  There is just something about her demeanor and/or attitude that I just never cared for.  I have seen a few of her recipes that were interesting to me but not enough to be a follower or fan of her.  I have the same opinion of her as I do Martha Stewart.
Have a wonderful day!
