I think she got a raw deal. If I was her, I would retire and enjoy my money and tell the world to kiss off.

I just read about this and was about to start a thread. Read here, this is the story I saw: http://www.today.com/money/could-paula-deens-words-hurt-her-cooking-empire-6C10411780

If this is truly the reason she was dropped from Food Network, something is very very wrong. Of course she uses the N word in the past, she grew up among segregation. Most every white in the South used that word. Seems fishy to me, there is no reason that should warrant not renewing the contract. Maybe there are other reasons, but if so, this story should not be such a huge deal. I just don't understand it!

I agree with all of you, so far.  The whole thing does sound questionable.  There are other people who have publicly said things - where is the consistency with tackling them as she has been?  She did a hard thing, too, by recording an apology to the public, even though, technically, this was back in the past, and living during the segregation happening back then.

I have grown up in Ga and even though it was just after segragation I have to admit that even I have used the word on those rare occasions. But I also say there is a differance between a Black and a N---er. In their manarisims and such. I think Paula is getting a bad deal here for something said in a moment of distrees and it just needs to be dropped and her contract renewed.

What do you think of Paula Dean being dropped from Food Network?

From what I understand, they dropped her for something she said YEARS ago, which I find ridiculous.  However, she is a very strong supporter of the left.  I guess it came back to bite her in the you-know-what.

I don't think what she "said" was really the real reason why food network dropped her. I thought I heard or read something about her health. Didn't she have throat cancer or some sort of cancer? I thought for sure that is the real reason she was let go. But we will never know. My best to her and the rest of her endeavors.

The media loves crucifying people. I think she'll be just fine.

She's got enough loyal supporters to carry her through this.

She's apologized to the whole world, so maybe she should just be forgiven.

It just seems to be part of the whole celebrity thing to be bashed on occasion.

I have no feelings on her being dropped from Food Network. I do think what some of you guys said is ridiculous. It's ok to use that term if you grow up in the south and that every white person in the south used it at one point and another. That is totally absurd, not everyone is ignorant. You guys know what it means and I don't even like when black people say it. It's just so ignorant, ugh. I change my mind, I guess karma got her.

Do not for one minute think it was a moral decision. Large corporations have PR firms that project sales and how events effect sales. The ONLY reason she was let go is that these PR machines found that she may not be profitable.

I think everyone is being too quick to make her a scapegoat for past mistakes. While I despise the word and the thinking of such, dropping her from Food Network, Wal-Mart and Harrah's is a bit much.

I think it is tragic.  I am Black and I like Paula.  Being raised in the segregated South, every person, more likely than not, has used the N word or been called one.  I could very well see it if she uttered the N word and went out to perform murder.  She deserves to be forgiven, and Food Network firing her is not right.  I am with another poster; I would retire and tell the world to "kiss my grits", as Flo used to say on Alice.
