About a week ago I saw a very unusually bird I've never seen before. It was tiny, reddish-brown with a white belly. It had no marks or pattern and the beak was very thin like a needle (and it had very skinny legs.) No, it wasn't a sparrow (I know what a sparrow looks like). I described the bird to my mother, she tried looking it up on the internet but we couldn't find it.

I think it might have been a humming bird.

No, it was definitely not a Humming birds...Humming birds are colorful (green) and iridescent. Their wings flutter really fast and they are much smaller than the bird I saw...The bird I saw hopped along the ground, is reddish-brown, with a white belly. That's definitely not a description of a Humming bird. I've seen a Humming bird before in my yard last summer a matter of fact.

Take a look at these photos.  They're all different Sandpipers.  There are 4 or 5 there that are brown with white bellies, long beaks and legs:

You are so right God does make everything unique. We have a pair of chickadee's in a nest just out side our front door and we've really enjoyed watching them come and go building a nest. We are surrounded with natural beauty if we just take the time to look at it.

I have 3 birdbaths and 5 birdhouses in the backyard.  I have 6 bird feeders for them.   I love watching the birds on a hot day sitting in the birdbaths splashing in the water or just drinking from it.  I also throw bread out for them.  I have seen many different kinds of birds, I wish I knew more about what kind they are.
Sounds like you are a real birder. Me Too. For such simple creatures, they can give us peace just watching and listening to their songs. There is such an assortment of birds and they change with the seasons. I am always looking for a new species of bird to show up for some food. I am trying to learn more about them and enjoying participating in Bird Counts. The Great Backyard Bird Count was a thrill for me and I actually got back an email from the sponsor for my participation. I also got free access to the BNA website for a short time. I was able to use this website to identify a bird from a few years ago who was following on my riding mower. Turns out he was a Mississippi Kite.

Thanks, BlackSheepNY...I appreciate you trying to help me find the little sucker, but that's not quite what I saw...The one I saw had no spots, it had sort of a round little head and a round body (I can't really explain). I wish I had my camera at the time, I would have taken a picture. Darn it!...If I ever find it, I'm gonna come back and post a pic so y'all can see.

I have never been woken up by a singing bird, but I have heard them sing very early and it seems at certain times of year they sing even earlier. I have heard them sing as early as 3:00 am.

I like to watch the birds some times. Especially when they fight. It's really funny. I used to have birds for pets. We had a couple parakeets and some finches. The finches were really annoying though because they made so much noise! I miss having a bird and have been trying to get one but now just isn't a good time.  :(
