Birds
« on: June 13, 2013, 07:54:21 am »
I saw the most beautiful bird on my deck this morning. I was a blue jay but it's pattern was so wonderful. It grabbed a piece of bread and flew away before I could get my camera. It made  me remember how God makes everything unique! :peace:

Awe that happens to me too, everytime I want to take a pic of a bird I see they leave before I can take a pic.

About a week ago I saw a very unusually bird I've never seen before. It was tiny, reddish-brown with a white belly. It had no marks or pattern and the beak was very thin like a needle (and it had very skinny legs.) No, it wasn't a sparrow (I know what a sparrow looks like). I described the bird to my mother, she tried looking it up on the internet but we couldn't find it.

I think it might have been a humming bird.

We had an adorable green bird with a red face and tail recently land on our deck.  We thought it might be a parakeet, but not too familiar with birds to say for sure.  It flew into one of the trees and a hawk (5 times its size) landed two feet away.  It then began to attack the pretty little green bird and at that moment a swarm of cardinals and sparrows flew to protect the little green bird.  My daughter and I ran out and tried to shoo away the hawk, but all they did was all swarm to another tree further away.  We never knew if the little green bird got away or not.  My heart feels for the family that might have lost a beloved pet.

I can relate.  I feed the birds in my trees every morning and night just so I can see them and how beautiful each one is!!!!

Try this website.  It's got some pretty good stuff here and maybe you'll find the bird you're looking for:

I love watching birds every day! They are one of God's creatures and they don't worry where their next meal is coming from or where they will be living. I think one of the most colorful and beautiful birds I have seen up close and personal at my feeder is the painted bunting. He has  chartreuse green, blue, and red. Such a pretty bird! I do love all birds, but the  hummers give you the best show! You have to be quick or you will miss them. Hard to photograph!

In our front yard we have 2 feeders, one holds the birdseed, the other holds the type seed that woodpeckers enjoy. Then in our backyard we have a hummingbird feeder. So around here we have enjoyed watching the birds a lot. Usually they don't start chirping around this area till almost 6 am. We had a nest of mockingbirds in our holly bush but when we had that hard rain about a month ago, it toppled the nest and the babies didn't make it  :(

I have 3 birdbaths and 5 birdhouses in the backyard.  I have 6 bird feeders for them.   I love watching the birds on a hot day sitting in the birdbaths splashing in the water or just drinking from it.  I also throw bread out for them.  I have seen many different kinds of birds, I wish I knew more about what kind they are.

I love bird watching.  We have many different ones in our area.  I have learned a lot about birds from my husband.  He grew up in the country and his grandmother taught him.
